Trade talk - from October 2024 (Part 7)

Nah we wouldnt Ridley is injury prone hasnt played a full season in years his last good season was when he won the b&f

As for Draper who knows Crows might not offer enough to trigger band 1 and we will have to accpet it.

It’s not just about picks, it’s about cleaning the place out because of the culture…… and the constant injuries.

We reset, hit the draft, and go again.

But when it comes to common sense discussions , you’re not really interested in that.

So we trade out players for cultural reasons only got it.

That can absolutely be a reason.
Look at Bailey Smith and McRae. Dogs wanted them both gone and took unders just to get them out the door. They are no worse off and of anything better for it

With the way Smith has been playing they abosulelty wouldnt be happy they got unders for him.

Dogs got fleeced

He wasn’t going to do that at the dogs anymore, he would have been miserable and continued tanking his career.

They got the best they could. All parties did well out of it.

Geelong did well out of it

So did Smith, and the Dogs. Means they are able to progress Freijah and give max mid time to Richards and Sanders.

On market value perhaps unders, but you can only work with what you’ve got. And keeping Smith wasn’t an option.

This binary trade win/loss stuff is not how it works. There is more at play.

Sometimes you just need to throw out the bad eggs. Dogs looked like a disjointed unhappy rabble last year. Cut the cancer out and they look a much better team. It has also allowed Freijah to come in and play fantastic footy.

Smith is an absolute head case . It’s only a matter of time before he does something really stupid either on or off the field

If someone is really bad for the culture of the joint, you turf them out straight away

What constitutes a bust?

He’s the finished product and shouldn’t be in our starting 23 next season.

I’d call that a bust for a number 1 pick

They still got bent over. Its funny how clubs keep bending over to Geelong when it comes to trading players.

Geelong will most likely get Rowel for a packet of chips.

That’s a bit strong, he has a vital role to play as long as it’s to his strengths.

As an actual lockdown small there are not many better in the league.

Disagree.

His weaknesses negate his strengths too much. He should be depth with the role of small backs to be given to Johnson, Nguyen, Roberts, El-Hawli and anyone else we ouck up along the way.

Well then you play to his strengths, which are still vital.

That’s a question of role, not player.

Geez also you are reaching with some of those names moving past him. They are not near that yet.

He isn’t the number 1 pick we wanted, but his value shouldn’t be judged solely based on that.

Absolute rubbish.
Geelong tend to take chances on blokes that are damaged goods so are able to get them for unders.
We did the same with Stringer last year. You have to offload the bad eggs for whatever you can

There are many factors that are vital. McGrath’s good, albeit very good, at just one.

Agree but blokes like Ridley,Redman etc arent bad eggs that need to be turfed and we get what we can from them

Yeah I view him differently.

I think he has a vital role to play for some time to come.

What he shouldn’t be doing is the stuff he isn’t, that comes down to coaching now. And getting the right players around him.
