They’ll give WC a first rounder, 2026 first rounder and 2027 first rounder.

If they split pick 2 we can give them another two first rounders for Reid
They could have 5 picks in the first 15
In a weak draft?
Maybe 6 in the first 20 if they got Pies pick too
Don’t think WC care they would want as much talent in the door as possible before Tassie comes
In that case, so should Essendon.
Happy to take our picks to the draft if we cant get Reid or anyone via a trade
So by that logic why would WC let Reid go, given he is contracted to them?
Would get less when he’s ooc
But there’s no star factor
Not necessarily, the market may be completely different next year. Maybe the club he wants to go to is better placed to trade, maybe the draft is a lot stronger, maybe multiple clubs bid.
If it’s a weak draft that we want out of for Reid, why would WC sell Reid to get in it?
Maybe WC don’t see it as a weak draft who knows
Just saying, try applying your reasoning around the draft not just to the buyer of a player for picks but also the seller of a player for picks.
The enemy always gets a say.
Why?
It would make sense if they are trying to expedite their rebuild and also try to be able to minimise some of their risk with losing players
Meant to be a strong batch of WA talent this year also
You are right, they are players that we won’t have access to (unless GC decided not to match a bid if we decided to do so), but the point is that if you’re the club with the 3rd or 4th pick in the draft, are you getting the 3rd or 4th best talent in the draft pool? No. You’re probably my looking at the 7th, 8th or 9th best. And that’s where it’s flawed. Father/Son we’ve lived with for a long time, but now with the NGA Academies and FA compo picks it’s far worse.
Also, do your homework on the draft history. The amount of busts or mediocre players taken in the bottom half of the top 10 is considerably higher than in the top 2-3 of the draft. The issue is we’ve either a) had strong draft hands in poor drafts, or b) our picks are not early enough to get the absolute cream of the crop. I’d back Rosa in if for instance he saw Willem Duursma and thought “he’s our guy” and organised a trade for WCE Pick 2 (should Allen leave in FA) for our 2 firsts this year. Better doing that than taking what will likely be Picks 9/10/11 or wherever our 2 firsts land and ending up with the next Nik Cox or Archie Perkins…
But Cal Twomey says so!
If it was the old system, where you could just add the NGA players to your list…… and it had nothing to do with the draft. Most people wouldn’t be complaining about it.
It’s only because people are seeing picks pushed back, that it’s made out to be a big issue.
It’s the same with the F/S. When the players were automatically taken in the 3rd round, not many people were complaining that they missed out on access to these players.
Given Rosa’s efforts over the past 12 months, I’d back him in with any pick.
So much so, that I’d encourage him to continue the “trade something out of this years draft to future drafts” process. It’s like compounding interest.
TRADE ALL PLAYERS except lij
