Trade talk - from October 2024 (Part 7)

I am mortally wounded!! Not sure I’ll recover from some random old cvnt on the internet having a crack at me.
Hopefully one day I can accrue the wisdom, knowledge and even-tempered nature that you possess.

If Ridley leaves we’re giving the keys to the backline to McKay and Reid… could be good or… Absolutely catastrophic

Bayley Fritch is utter junk. We have enough soft players thanks.

So pay this one out. I’m changing tact. Pay out the ridiculous contracts of players that we regret signing. If they request a trade, we can play them in the VFL for the next 6 years. Either way it free’s up future cap space. It’s cleaning up a mess. It’s sub-optimal to be in a mess, but if you can fix it with free cap space, then why not.

They didn’t seem particularly upset at losing Stringer for a packet of chips.

Not ideal but bundle it up with a second rounder and send it to GC for one of their 1st round picks and a 3rd round pick and we might salvage something

In that case I guess we trade them as cap dump. We pay them for a bit and get a pick to plug the list spot.

Anyway, my original position was that a club with a lot of coin to spend would likely end up with even more coin to spend.

In that scenario I’m sure the club has a plan for that coin, it will be interesting what it is if it plays out that way.

Was everyone aware that Rob Ridley, Jordan’s dad, is a recruiter at Essendon?

I’d say he’s been handed a pretty good opportunity.

I mean, Reid is on (albeit minimal) exposed form a class above the rest of the bunch. I’m a big Ridley fan but Zach Reid could offer far, far more.

We need him to be fit irrespective of if we trade Ridley or not. Reid already has the keys.

Straight swap for Oliver. It would be worth it just for the banter on here.

In terms of getting exposure to AFL level, sure.

In terms of being a key forward in a team that gives him a shot of playing his best football, not at all.

Even 1999-2004 Matthew Lloyd would struggle in this system. (Edit: I had to 2003, but he damn near won the Coleman in 2004 too).

The club were trying to make a statement with Stringer

The care factor for who goes or stays is at an all time low.

Rids, Darce & Drapes combined will have missed a total of 102 games from a possible 204 over 3 years by the end of this year.

Each on average has never played more than 1/2 seasons in that time. Little wonder they’re “potentially” looking to get out of this pot hole of a footy club.

Fit and firing, they’re important cogs but there comes a point where their value to the team is justifiably questioned.

If they want to go, let them. It would be great if they could enjoy their footy again, but bloody hard seeing them star for the opposition.

Hayes will hold down the fort

Were they? What was the statement?

Coming back from an acl

Didn’t Brad make a comment (after the game) about the struggle with so many injured players is that the ones coming in haven’t really spent a lot of time playing with the team so there is a disconnect in ball movement, game plan and execution?

It is a valid point and it also means that having these players in and out through injury so regularly each year is also taking a toll on those factors and creating quite a destabilising situation.

Maybe the idea of clearing them from the books is to create a core group who are spending less time injured and that then creates a solid foundation to build around?

Of course that all depends on whether we keep having the new players also get injured and then re-injury and then on we go again. We really do need to fix up the fitness department

Same.

I recon Draper is seriously overrated on blitz.
