Trade talk - from October 2024 (Part 7)

Hawks and Richmond would the obvious competitors for Reid.

The thought of Reid at hawthorn is a disturbing one, hawks don’t need anymore arrogance, us on the other hand have been crying out for an ounce of arrogance since 2000.

If it’s between us and the hawks I’d be 100% on board with doing whatever it takes to get him across for the benefit of the entire league. If it was any other club I’d be saying LDU plus 3x firsts are much better for where our list is at.

I’m a pig for FA and think we should be making strategic upgrade deals like the BZT-McKay-Duursma one all the live long day.

Eg trade Parish for an early 2nd and get LDU as a FA. Then trade that early 2nd for a quality HB/small fwd or use it to help get a Reid, JUH, etc.

I rate that we ended up with McKay & Duursma by only losing BZT. We used our biggest asset ($$$) to upgrade our FB whilst helping fill another role on a wing using the pick we received for trading the previous FB.

A lot would have to go right and I think it’s highly unlikely, but I see a potential opportunity there to do the same with Parish/LDU & it’d also improve our midfield mix.

We need to be ruthless in how we improve the list and the advantages for a club with our sort of salary cap space (and how we’ve managed existing contracts) is huge if we can find the right FA targets.

Semi-related but it’s disappointing that pick purchasing hasn’t come into play yet. Feels inevitable and also something that would really benefit a club like ours atm.

Twomey says LDU is staying. You can basically bank that.

Neither here or there with acquiring Reid, but I disagree he is a ‘cherry on top’ player - he is a thick layer of the cake player.

Teams that have their list ‘sorted’ also generally aren’t armed with a swag of first round picks and therefore are in the free agency star market (J.Cameron), not the 20 year old future star with an entire career ahead of him market (H.Reid).

idk but I’m getting quietly confident we will snag H.Reid there seems to be a lot of noise around us.

I wonder if Tom Morris would have any info to back up what the the bloke on sen said

you’re going to convince yourself throughout the season then meltdown and blame the club when it all falls over aren’t you

I’ll be shatterd but I’m not going to have a meltdown. I know one thing tho Blitz will have meltdown if he picks Hawks

He’s contracted.
Reid’s choice will have some sway, certainly, but the Eagles aren’t letting him go for a significantly worse offer.

lol.

Sitting next to the hawthorn coach at a wedding…… so it must mean something.

Hawks finish top 5 their first rounder will be a teens picks. I cant see Carlton finishing bottom 5 at worst they miss finals or sneak in which makes their pick out side the top 10

Hawks try of offer those picks and Eagles will tell then to get farked

I think you’re right.

If he doesn’t want a trade to a us, I don’t think it’s a bad thing. As we have a hell of a lot of holes in this list which need to be filled.

But having a gun player ready to go, when Merrett is at the end of his career…… it’d also be nice.

Honestly, I don’t care either way.

Is McKay really an upgrade on Zerk?

Same with Gresham over Snelling.

Hindsight now Id say we’d prefer to save the million a year and not go for either players.

For this reason alone is why I recon the club are going hard for him and Rowell imo.

Is there any chance someone we draft could turn into a fkn A-grader for a change.

How can you go 12 years since Merrett was drafted and have not drafted another player to go on and become a star.

Yeah, but it’s a huge price to pay for 1 player, when our list is pretty damn average.

It’s been the tale of the last 20 years.

But but but but…… development

overpaying(?) for quality youth is a little different to overpaying for seniors on the wrong side of the list demographic though

I kind of also don’t care what happens, if he comes then awesome. If he doesn’t, we’ll use the picks on other talent
