Trade talk - from October 2024 (Part 7)

Also Merrett to Shiels half back spot .

Reid to the guts.

Dylan’s not getting another contract unless it’s single years I’d say

It’s 2 first round picks which could be used to address 2 list problems.

As opposed to Reid addressing one? Maybe? Not sure Reid is addressing a list issue…… but a talent issue.

probably depends if you view Reid as just another midfielder, or the type of talent that can genuinely change a list

no point taking two more top 5 mids if they’re just stat accumulators and never get played in the correct position

If Reid is going to have a loose unit type of year, I’m not certain I’d be throwing out three first round picks. Needs to play some genuinely good footy this year.

I think the shape of the talent this year might influence West Coast.

If there’s elite WA talent at the pointy end then they will entertain offers for Harley.

If there is a dearth this year well.

What would you want if in the eagles shoes?

Fk if they ate cake together there it is.They got the cake.

If we come away from the trade period with Reid and a First round pick…… I’d be pretty stoked.

I’d say both are upgrades but what’s the point of saving more cash that we can’t use? We’d just end up paying Parish, McGrath, Ridley, Langford, etc even more.

We’re chasing after Rowell/Reid types & just gave a pay rise to our skipper because of our cap position, so the money we’ve already front-loaded to blokes like McKay & Gresham doesn’t bother me given it won’t restrict us from being able to afford more talent. Also replacing BZT with McKay is what also got us Duursma, which I like.

You don’t win an award for having the most salary cap space

Agree.

But remember a young party boy Dustin "troubled’ Martin?

Reid is turning 20.

No,we are not winning a flag this year or next,or even the following imo.

But then suddenly Reid is 23-24, AND turns into the gun we have seen in snippets.

If he is unhappy, then of course his playing is diminished. Hes a kid.

But I agree that to go without a first rounder is really …well yes.If we got Reid and he simoly continued on this kind of ‘ocassional’ brilliance but inconsistent.

Expect another decade of pain.

So its going to be interesting.
Because we are making an assumption also on this ‘3 first rounders’ like it will set us up and less risk.

Dunno.

Cox body, zak Reids body…And so on.
No guaratees at all.

Personally.
A gun small forward.
And a couple ‘elite’ uses by foot in tne bp hb positions are what we need.

Seems our midfield goes pretty well winning the ball. Elite ball users. The Hawthown game is perfect example in first half of exposing our true gaps.

Dylan shouldn’t be getting another game let alone another season

We can find this without using first round picks. Now that we have a remotely competent list manager,.we can find value with later picks and trades just like Hawthorn have.

If that happens, Blitz will think it’s being DDos’d

Bringing Reid in allows Merrett to go to half back, which he would be an absolute weapon at. Majorly strengthen two areas in 1 off season.

How many failed top 10 picks (with many being closer to top 5) will it take before more people start coming around to trading for players. Reid, despite where he is right now is probably the most talented draftee of the last 5-8 years. He is a Dustin Martin/Petracca type player. They very rarely come around and the chances of us picking a player Better than him at 8-14 are not high- we have proven that.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but I don’t believe we are as far away as you’re making out. We were 3 wins from finishing top 6 last year, and being the youngest list in the league we should really only be getting better.

In my opinion if we can bring in Reid and one other back flanker who is a known good kick, we are more than well on our way.

Yeah, I’m not phased either way tbh.

Reid would be nice, but if it doesn’t happen…. We’re all set up to hit the draft which will be of benefit.

We’ve seen this situation before, and it hasn’t ended well for us. So im cautious.

If it happens, great.
If it doesn’t happen, great.

A bloke named Adrian combined with ■■■■ development and the young players learning off loser leadership that have never won anything.

Perhaps that’s his plan.

Think what would Carlton do.

Then do the opposite.
