I think the Harley Reid stuff is already a done deal.
There’s no way clubs have Harley in a limbo state. He’s made a decision about which club and when…now it’s just about can the trade get done.

Not sure about that. Maybe he’s definitely keen to get home and perhaps he’s always thought he’d like to play with us.
And then a year before you need to make up your mind Mitchell sits next to you at a wedding and says he can really see you with Day and Newcombe tearing up the midfield and the club is well set up for another 3 peat.
All year he watches the Hawks - what would you do if the money was remotely similar.
I doubt a deal has been fully agreed to.
Why do we assume Hawks will do a 3 peat?
Bulldogs labeled a dynasty in 2016 = one flag
Melbourne labeled a dynasty in 2021 = one flag
Geelong labeled a dynasty in 2022 = one flag
Pies labeled a dynasty in 2023 = one flag
Hawks may very well win a flag but this notion they are going to 3 peat is laughable one flag is hard to win let alone 3 in a row

The problem building for Essendon is we have salary cap room, but not so much room that we can create space for more than maybe 2 of these potential recruits.
These guys like Reid, Butters and De Koening is they would all expect >$1m per year, and long contracts too.
Do we do it, or invest in the crap shoot of the draft.
I think the comp is getting more even every year where doing 3 peats is a lot harder imo.
We need to be shrewd with Free Agency.
Stop going after the big names…… and go after players who are going to play a role and fit the culture we are trying to build.

That could be interpreted as Mitchell suggested a catch-up but Harley refused. At least that’s how I choose to interpret it.

Pittonet is only a battler.
If I were Carlton I would trade Harry Mckay and keep TDK. Carlton cant afford to lose TDK

I was just giving you Mitchell’s sell to Reid. But they’ve timed their rebuild perfectly with the compromised drafts that are coming - again.
They’re very well positioned. They have cap space and a well balanced list.
