We don’t need another smallish midfielder. Neeed someone like Reid who will complement what we have already.

I would seriously question Reid’s sanity if he chose the Hawks over us. Hell I’d even take $500k less per year to play with a contender

When Judd came back Carlton were anything but a contender.
All he managed to do was drag them into a few finals series though.

Butters would be good for WB.
Libba and Treloar are nearing the end. Hand over to Butters and Sanders.
Bont keeps doing his thing, Ed Richards in the mix. It remains a very potent midfield group.
In fact, they could trade out JUH and whatever they receive would be ~80% of what is needed to get Butters.

Collingwood did, they gave up their future 1st to GWS, that pick ended up being Finn Callaghan.
GWS gave 24, 30 and got Pies F1st.

You need to factor in what we already have.
It’s nice to look at shiny new things…… but reality is Butters doesn’t fill a need.
The only way I see us needing Butters, is that we are trading Tsatas and/or Parish.
The club has been reluctant to be this aggressive, with moving players on.

I see our issues as being defence and ball movement. Part of that is personnel, and part of that needs to be on Scott. Scott has been here nearly 3 years now and we have shown no improvement so far

If we did pick up someone like Reid then this midfield’s gone past Parish. That’s looking like a terrible contract.
I assume Hawthorn will try structure the Harley and Allen deal like this…
Get Allen to band 1 compo, trade 2025, 2026, 2027 1sts for Reid
Will the eagles like it? Probably not, those 2026, 2027 1sts will be late teens before any academy f/s or compo, plus 2027 is the Tassie concessions draft.
The 2027 pick could be in the 30’s. I don’t think they’d accept that offer.
So many different ways we can go with this. There are going to be gun footballers available over the next year or two, and we only have so many assets to go around.
It wouldn’t bother me if Rosa bypassed all the options just picked his own kids from the draft by using all the capital he has. If he went hybrid and used some for the right player in the market, and some draftees that might be the best option.
Question is who is the right footballer, and how much is a fair cost. Butters, Reid, whomever. I frankly don’t know what the right way to go is.

Yeah Tsatas and Parish super unlikely to leave. Tsatas is moving out of home soon and moving in with another of the young team mates. Might have been Robert’s. So unlikely to be going. We have so many inside mids in the team and the players we do need are in the draft and will be available easily as we have a low pick
