Trade talk - from October 2024

I think Perkins ceiling is Will Hayward (I hope he can reach this level) he kicked 41 in 26 games this year, I’d like to see Perkins become this type of HFF.

He had no idea…I reckon he just put a prompt into ChatGPT “provide a summary with recommendations on Essendon Midfield” and read it out I reckon

He looks on paper and sees Redman, McGrath and Martin. Doesn’t do an overall analysis on what their true roles are

What part don’t you understand?

What are they aiming for. We are 2 years in. Scott doesn’t get a 10 year free ride.

We are just treading water.

I believe he wants to know if we are going to rebuild or not?

It’s definitely not the clubs strategy. We have tried to reload on plenty of occasions which has failed.

I believe they will give opportunity to the likes of El-Hawli, Hayes etc and see what we have from this crop and reevaluate everything again next off-season.

Yeah the timeframe to contend isn’t clear.

But we are going younger so that suggest we are not trying to contend next year

But, we’re 2 years in. Nothing is happening.

Scott can talk ■■■■ all he wants, but he is in trouble next year if we don’t play finals.

He isn’t asking for answers.

What’s the point in trading back in this years draft if the picks will get eaten up in the Kako bid.

Being a successful organisation takes time.

The on-field results won’t go our way straight away, but if Brad is building good foundations inside the hangar then i’m sure with time we will start seeing on-field results go our way.

I think if we keep playing the same guys and the same second half of the season fade out occurs, he’s in trouble.

If we change approach, prioritize the kids, and even with a poor overall season finish better than we started; he’ll be fine irrespective of ladder position.

Rutten got most of these guys to the finals, and they were 3 years younger. He was sacked because they didn’t make finals the following year, and the board thought we were capable of better.

What has Brad done the past 2 years??

Put some music on. Trade Radio is not worth your time. Come back at the end of trade period and see what actually happened.

(Says I, while reading this thread!)

I feel your pain.

But the reality is we are entitled to nothing. I just hope we are paving the groundwork within the club for success on-field long term. If they get things right with list strategy, player development and standards within the club then we will get what we deserve over a period of time.

How long that takes, well who knows.

That is assuming we would get 40 goals from Stringer and not 20-30, but I think if you look at how we lined up towards the end of the year we can find the extra goals.

Draper kicked 9/11 of his goals in the last 8 rounds of the season, if he is spending time up forward he is good for a goal a game so that’s 12 goals added.

If Caddy plays every round he is looking at a goal a game so that’s another 13 goals added.

We are up to 25 more goals and we haven’t even needed to replace Stringer in the 23.

Think the idea is you trade 9 for future first and late first early second this year to eat up the Kako bid.

For what it’s worth I think we will hold the pick till draft night and play a bit of a chicken.

Yes, that was my impression. He was playing the usual straight bat but didn’t deny (and wasn’t asked) that we would trade them if a suitor comes along. In the case of Laverde, that is seeming very unlikely.

He also postured a little on Kako. Saying that we like him but need to spend time with him, a lot of water to go under the bridge etc. He was clearly very deliberately implying that us taking him is not a fait accompli (deterrent to those threatening to bid early).

That attitude of we better make the finals and maybe win is the reason we are shizen.
It’s typical Essendon thought process that has hindered us for so long.
We need to take our medicine clear out the dead wood and rebuild

We aren’t though. We’re not rebuilding.
