If Saints bid pick 8 for Kako don’t we need to use pick 9? Or can we choose to use later picks to match?

If we start our rebuild now, it will only be 5 years till the next rebuild is required. We are only postponing the inevitable.

Correct. Presumably we’d have an upper limit on what we are prepared to use on Kako. What that is, who knows.
Issue is we are all emotionally invested in Kako.
We need a new rebuild. The current rebuild is ■■■■.

Dunno about you, but I suspect that unless they need picks, back to back selections in a highly rated top 20 is way more useful than two in the 30’s that don’t actually gain them additional points.
I don’t mind the idea of trying to shuffle / improve picks though.

Any other club can see how desperately we need that type of player so they would be stupid not to force our hand.

We can’t stop the Saints bidding on Kako, but I hope we’re pointing out that we looked after them last year with the Gresham deal/compensation.
All they’re doing by bidding on him at 8 is screwing up our pick 9, I’m sure we’d take him anyway.
Might be a tougher at the Melbourne’s pick.

Nino. You need to stop panicking that we are not taking Kako.
There is quite literally zero percent chance he doesn’t play for Essendon next year.
But in between now and the draft there is going to be a lot of posturing from both Essendon and the clubs around us. And we will need to talk up the prospect of not taking him even if that’s not a real possibility.
We should be doing everything in our power to make sure we get kako plus another top end talent. He looks great but he is not going to solve all of our issues.
