Trade talk - from October 2024

No guarantee they work, either

But was if we’re like North. Supporters won’t stick around. Blitz will disappear.

Didn’t think of it that way.

Because I’ve witnessed 20 years of mismanaged draft and recruiting…. pretty safe to make an educated guess considering there were a few clubs linked to start with and none of them were Essendon.

Thought the most interesting bit mentioned there was that " he’s a contracted player " about Jake - so it sounds like we can actually enforce the option, not just Jake. And then ā€œthere’s discussion around his ( Jakes) tenureā€. So I’d say it’s certain that if he can get a two year offer, and if we’re happy with the return , we’ll trade him.

Ivan must expect a bid before 9 on Kako.

I would split it out to a different trade on draft night, wait and see if Kako goes past us.

Here’s a question for you - if Kako is bid on at #8, we would use #9 to match. This gives us a surplus of +228.2 points.

Do we lose those excess points, or are they added to our next pick and we move up the draft? So currently we have draft pick 31 (606 points), 606+228.2 = 834.2 points or just shy of pick 22

Who’s better positioned to win a premiership?

  • North Melbourne
  • Essendon

Clakko is burnt out. they will still struggle to attract talent.
North might win another final before us though.

Yep fair. I don’t have strong feelings either way

I could see gws trying to get something like this done though.

I think there’s every charge kako bid doesn’t come until the 20s and in that event we’d get 2 picks before him.

On balance I probably favour your approach.

More than anything I wish our first pick was top 5 and had been the last 4 years

Shame GWS don’t want to feel the LAV - would be a pretty easy swap with stone and maybe some shrapnel coming back our way

We’d lose them, that’s why you’d use lots of lower picks to make up the amount, as close as you can get it.
You cant just add the 228 to the next pick as it would automatically rise up in the draft order and some other clubs will have an issue with that. It’ll be a complete mess, even worse than it is now. (so let’s do it…lol)

Logic was actually the opposite. I don’t think a bis comes until the twenties so I was thinking to try and get 2 picks before kako.

Huge gamble obviously and on balance I’d be pretty reluctant to do that trade myself but suspect gws will try it on

How would anyone know? Impossible to measure

Watch them do a hawthorn

Essendon hasn’t provided any draft night guarantees to Kako, though, who commenced running in the past fortnight and is training at the Hangar three days a week.

ā€œAFL football, it’s a dream in itself,ā€ he said. ā€œMany kids would do anything to have this opportunity so who am I to pick and choose where I want to play football?ā€

Kako has suitors as high as the Demons with pick five after kicking 20 goals in 12 games for the Cannons, splitting his time forward and on-ball.

(Demons next pick is 40)

Dan hannebury complaining about sam power (WB list manager) being dry, I’m guessing he doesn’t listen to the sound of his own voice? XD

While I’m absolutely not averse to the idea of a rebuild, if Nino’s oft-quoted 8-10 years for a rebuild is indeed correct, would anyone think it beyond Essington to take 45 years and try-and-fail miserably twice in the process?
