Probably not. If the hawks had come to us with the offer they did after we’d just won back to back flags, and Merrett was a key piece of trying to win a third in a row, I would absolutely be of the opinion they could go ■■■■ themselves with a rake.
Maybe he can go to Tassie as an uncontracted player, link up with Buckley. I mean, he did go to Buckley a while ago to see if he could go there

Of course they would. He’s 32 and they’re a professional organisation. Carlton just did a similar trade for Curnow who is younger.
I wouldn’t underestimate the strength of flag chasing. They just chose to get nothing for Ah Chee.

Ok, that is a fair point. But that would be the only reason they wouldn’t do it, and we’re not exactly in the same position. As I said, Carlton did a similar deal for Curnow.

As I said above (quoted below), the Merrett and Curnow deals were very similar. In the equivalent for us, its Hobbs vs. Hayward and losing two picks. Hayward is clearly better, but the picks have value.

Barass was different. Despite WCE maybe feeling aggrieved, they themselves farked up the Club/Barass relationship well before Hawks turned up. Barass was screwed over from a very high level by WCE, and they had little comeback.
