Trade talk - from October 2025 (Part 10)

That’s the dream we must sell.

Thats the trouble though, any contender is very likely to have a top 10 pick plus his management team and every club out there have the leverage that he is about to enter his final year of contract. Would absolutely love a top 10 for him but I just can’t see a world where somebody offers that especially as he still apparently only wants the Hawks

That’s up to the Hawks to make happen. They can deal with other clubs and get us the picks we demand or Merrett stays.

So then it becomes Hawks first (15 ish) this year and next (22 ish).

Seems about right.

On current ladder position, Hawks have 16, 25, 27 and 34 this year.

I’d take those if offered and use them to trade up this year or some into next year depending on if we can pre-list some players next year.

Not enough. We demand a pick in the top 10. If they can get it done, then great, otherwise they can fark off.

That did not work well for us keeping Merrett.

Doing the same again this year is madness.

I don’t even think Essendon are stupid enough to let him enter his final contract year. That would be peak small dik swagger

Hawks actually offered us pick 9 as part of that deal. We turned it down.

We will, because the likelihood is we will finish last next year also and can just pick him up in the MSD if he nominates.

Oh yes they are

lol. That is NOT how it works.
We hold on to him and then at the end of next year he walks to whoever he wants and we get a pick in the 40’s or 50’s compensation.
If the club turns down say Pick 15 this year and 25 next year to make a stand then the whole joint needs to burn to the ground

Plus he’s always fit! Still has 5 years left

I’m invested in seeing the place burn.

But we made a stand last year! And the year before. And twice this year.

Surely everyone’s scared of us now?

 it was a nice dream

If we finish last, bid on Walker & Cochrane, then trade pick 3 (HVH) to Richmond for pick 4 (+ something enticing), both clubs would still get the compo pick, right?

Just wondering what Tigers might be prepared to give up for HVH.

Pick 9 last year, what is currently pick 16 this year and their second from last year (34?) or this year (34) and a ■■■■ player.

Madness.

With Merrett, how open is the Hawks premiership window? Gunston won’t be around for much longer and is the centrepiece of their forward line. Lewis is injury prone. Make them pay for Merrett while they need him most.

No, neither team will get the compo, you have to use your allocated pick/ original pick, once you trade it or use it to match a bid then no compo pick for you.
