Without looking at the how’s and why’s, the AFL site has them with a first and three seconds in 2026.

An AFL article from after the trade period has that as a 2026 third round pick going back to Brisbane from Hawks.
But I can’t see it.
So they got a 2026 second for Worpel
They did the Brisbane trade which was pick 17 in and 22 plus 2026 second out.
They did a trade with West Coast which was pick 17 for pick 18 plus a 2026 second
They did a trade with GWS where they gave up pick 14 for pick 16 plus a 2026 second rounder.

They traded their original second rounder from this year to Brisbane but got the Worpel compo in.

And the 2026R2 pick they got from West Coast was originally St Kildas, I think I’ve got it.
You don’t get future picks for free agency compensation. They got a 2025 pick which is one of the ones traded to Carlton to get #22.

In your scenario clearly King would be the Hawks priority over Merrett.
So where’s the incentive for GC to use any FA compo to acquire a speculative player like Ridley?
Hawks can still facilitate a Merrett trade in isolation to any “deal” that maximises GC’s return for King.
Getting a third party involved just dilutes their end

Just to finalise it, looks like they sent Sydney’s F3 in that trade with Brisbane (they sent their own F3 to West Coast to pick up Dalton).
They got Sydney’s pick in the Serong trade.
