Trade talk - from October 2025 (Part 10)

Seriously the AFL is ■■■■■■ if Geelong get Butters and Toby. It is time to give up. Do they have a salary cap? Darley is alot closer to Footscray is a big hope for Doggies.

Nothing a farm or a cotton on ambassador job can’t solve

15 mins drive difference each way, much less in traffic, if he decides to live in Darley….

Might be on a farm a bit closer.

If he nominates Cats, they will sort it out.

From my source 90% dogs a close 2nd but they have cooled interest a bit. Stengle money was to increase Butters offer.

I just think its going to come all unstuck for Geelong soon. They’ve built their success off the back of a decade of good recruiting and management but with a lot of luck thrown in. I just think if they keep giving up draft capital and get a few picks wrong then they’re on a slippery slope down. Remember a lot of their best players are well beyond their peak years.

Can you name two picks theyve gotten wrong off the top of your head?

I reckon they will end up getting Butters for FA compo. IMO that’s why the Richmond conversation is there.

Port then have a go at pick 1 and try and double up at the top end.

Cats will be good for another ten years, they have some excellent young and middle bracket players too and will just keep replenishing.

Still had bout a dozen players against Collingwood on Friday night that are 25 years old or under and have a VFL side stacked with talent sitting top.

They aren’t dropped ng off anytime soon

How would that even work? If they trade up it would have to be a monumental trade to get to 1 like offering 4 and 5 and then they wouldn’t have the points to match Cochrane anyway even if they got the pick 1 open pool selection

No idea.

Just can imagine that would be the desired best case scenarios for all parties so they could work towards it.

Cats are pros and Port have been able to plan for this.

I don’t think it’s possible

You might be right.

It’s also not in their best interest to take one compo pick, they need points value this year and next year for a bunch of club tied talent.

Free farms, free livestock, free house renovations, cheap blocks of land via Costa and cashies.

No disaster picks, but their team has been held up by generational players like Stewart, Dangerfield, Selwood, Cameron, Blicavs, Hawkins etc.

All the blokes above are either gone or going. I don’t think they’re dropping off a cliff, but I think they’ll be around mid table for a while.

I’m all for giving up on footy if the Fark Cats get both of these players, but I take issue in you saying that a bloke would choose to live in Darley

We would be ■■■■■■■ stupid to not go after him, even with that scummer stench

Bulldogs need a tall back. We need a small forward. Maybe we could do a straight swap. Jones for Jones!
