Trade talk - from October 2025 (Part 10)

We would have already had that conversation with Tassie. Us playing him VFL for a number of games won’t be a surprise to them

He’s not a free agent, but theoretically (if he agrees) we can walk him to the PSD. May reduce the trade cost.

Their record with first rounders ain’t great.

They can trade the compo pick back for a later pick and 2027 pick. Then trade their second rounder into 2027 too.

#5 may be a better return than they can get from Bulldogs or Geelong. Although it leaves them in a quandary if they finish above GC.

They usually have Gold Coasts picks to play with as well.

I would be my left nut that those picks will go to Geelong, Hawthorn or Collingwood.

I know Cal Twomey used Parish as a option.

But it is more likely to be Geelong with one of Worpel, Miers if cooked knee or Brad Close.

Where’s the value for Geelong or Hawthorn here? If you are contending, why would you use your salary cap in the short term on a player that’s on another list? Unless they have a serious player payments issue like when Collingwood needed to offload Grundy, it’s more likely to be a team in a rebuild or one just about to enter one.

Picks pushing out next year from their natural position makes it hard for us to match for our club tied players next year. Trading any of our 2nd rounders this year for future first rounders next year is not good value unless it is a team that finishes bottom 7-8 that we trade with whose actual pick would be closer to points value of pick 14-15.

By the very nature of bottom 8 teams it is unlikely those teams this year will want to trade out their future first rounder.

Obviously there are stipulations to the above scenario but it is crazy the AFL hasnt accounted for the dilution in points value with the compromised draft.

Welcome back Nino,
Yeah he has been talking about it for the last two years i reckon saying itll eventually be a normal thing

It pr be for salary cap relief, it will just be for some has been to give another leg up to the teams that don’t need it.

A Jones and Z Dursmaa remain OOC - pretty late in the year.

Do we want Zane Duursma, or is that a trade for the sake of doing a trade?

I suspect it won’t be a trade it would be more likely to be psd. Assume if jones happened that would be the trade.

Yeah that is fair, and I know the club had a level of interest into him late last year. I just don’t rate him from what I’ve seen. Some decent form early in the season but large drop off.

Darcy will love Tassie. Heaps of awesome golf courses down there

I’d give them those three players to purchase pick 48 at this stage

100% that’s what will happen

Z Duursma will walk to the Pre season draft and North fans will cry.
But even if he does come, we need some good development staff in to get him up to speed.
