Absolutely but there is a recency bias and clubs are absolutely concerned about Ridley.

Pretty telling that the Suns who normally are willing to even pay overs for anyone with 2 legs and a heartbeat have pretty much said they aren’t interested in him.

At the moment with his injury concerns he isn’t worth much at all whereas a bloke playing every week in a team that will play finals has more value.

I absolutely think Ridley is a far better player overall but currently his value is lower than Jones IMO

Jack Bowes (Geelong)

Bowes could be on his way to a third club, with Essendon – who tried to woo him in the 2022 trade period, when Gold Coast were also dangling pick No.7 to get off his salary – renewing interest in the winger. He chose the Cats back then, but has been in and out of Chris Scott’s team this season and does not have a deal for next year.

Jack Bowes could be a good interpreter for us - he could help to bridge the gap between what happens at a ■■■■ club, ie Gold Coast and Essington vs what happens at a good club, Geelong.

I’d say we’d be looking at Bowes, as a bargaining chip to get extra rookie spots, with the AFL.

Ie. If we get extra rookie spots, if gives us room to bring in Jack Bowes and keep Setterfield.

Bowes in no way moves the needle for me, but i’m coming around to the acquisition if it occurs. A senior body to help the growth of Sharp, Robey et al.

With Merrett seemingly out the door and the futures of Parish, Setterfield & Tsatas relatively unknown, we begin to look a bit light on for midfielders. Bowes is a cheap stop gap to play a role for a couple of years as we continue to stockpile talent.

Where’s the value for Geelong or Hawthorn here? If you are contending, why would you use your salary cap in the short term on a player that’s on another list? Unless they have a serious player payments issue like when Collingwood needed to offload Grundy, it’s more likely to be a team in a rebuild or one just about to enter one

The value is in if they are cooked/ injured.
and you want games into younger players, move their contracts on.
Think more hawks moving on Omeara and Tom Mitchell types.

What does Bowes bring? He takes a kids list spot, he takes a kids spot in the side, he maybe means we don’t finish last. All bad things. What does he bring? He’s never been known for leadership. Always struggled to stay in the senior side. Was part of a rubbish culture at GC.

Are we really saying that we’ll just give anyone from Geelong or similar clubs a go? Because that seems to be a terrible decision given the clear negatives that come with him.

The articles is saying the original club pays the salary. Not Tassie. So Geelong would be keeping the contract, just not the player.

Why would Tassie give out good picks for cooked players?

might actually be a tiny improvement if the brothers can read each other’s signals about where to go and when to pass.
(although if you listen to them talk in interviews, X got the strength and endurance, W got the talent and Z got the looks)

The trade for #4 has no contingency on a Bulldogs trade. If Port don’t match, take #5 they can probably trade it for a #11 and F1 and it all works out the same for us. Port aren’t getting us involved in the Butters trade so we get Jones for free.

There is no reason we shouldn’t be screwing the Bulldogs for as low a price as possible.
