The words from GWS recruiting manager is that unlike some other drafts, there isn’t that group of real standout players up the top. Rather it’s a more even group of 10-15.
In other words, it’s not like a 2021 with JHF, Darcy, Daicos and Callaghan as clear standouts at the top end. Rather (this will trigger Dons fans) it’s more of a 2020 or 2016 type draft

Yeah I don’t think that’s unreasonable.
But the general comment was that there is still heaps available.

Still a chance for cats to grab a Shannon Neale or Max Holmes then to go with Worpel and Rowan marshall
I dont think the club will be wanting more draft picks with draper compo that gives 5 picks inside 25 thats plenty we will be after players imo

Note that this wasn’t a comment about the draft as a whole, but just about the dynamics of the best 10 to 15 prospects.
Every draft is different. In 2023, it was Reid and then daylight. But that didn’t mean there weren’t some great players also taken in the first round. In contrast, 2024 was perceived as being more even.

You could put a blanket over pick 3 to pick 20.
If you’ve got a pick later in the first round, you’ve got just as much chance of finding a star as a team with pick 3.
There are a lot of upside players, who are lacking consistency.
Imo it’s perfect if you have multiple picks in the mid range… and you have a List manager who can pick the eyeballs out of the first round.

Shame that Lewis Hayes did his acl he looked real good would have played 20 games and gone past Ridley where losing Ridley wouldnt be a big of an issue

At the end of the day it doesn’t really matter as a heap of ■■■■ that gets reported in the media is various degrees of crap and made up but I’d have thought if he was deadset on staying he may have put out a statement, obvious reasons currently why Merrett hasn’t haha
