I can’t see why other Clubs haven’t started to come hard for Merrett.
Most are in need of a gun distributing mid, even GC could do with Merrett more than Petracca.
So I have feeling (nothing more) that there is going be a lot more happening in this space over the next week or 2.
As for Darcy, I would only consider him as a salary dump for example:
Darcy (we pay 2/3’s or 3/4’s of his salary) & #6 for Edwards & F3. This way Edwards creates the list spot for Darcy.
As for Flanders, I would insist on a 2nd round pick in any Merrett trade. Using Hawthorn as an example: Picks 8, 26 & F1. Offer GC Picks 22, 25 & 26 for Flanders. GC then have their Academy picks fairly covered & 3 1st round picks plus futures to go after Curmow & Petracca.

Yeah I know we’ll get draft picks. I was more talking about the trading bit. Come draft night I’ll be a lot more excited.
I’m hoping there’s a few other contending clubs keeping tabs on the merrett saga and come trade week there’ll be a bidding war. Hawks have the best hand atm but that could change with trading and I’d happily take Collingwood’s futures if it came to that. Anyone but Hawthorn.

I can’t recall who said it when the Merrett trade business first started, but the claim was that Mitchell would be just as satisfied to create division within Essendon even if he doesn’t get his man - seems accurate given the circumstances.

This is what I think will happen. Also AFL not happy with Mitchell meeting with Zach. I believe Dills mentioned this week on SEN he didn’t like the secret meetings with contracted players. Hawks have played it thinking we’d fold

Bad luck, it has been happening every year for decades and will continue to do so. Clubs, managers and players are looking at these things months and years in advance, not waiting for a 2 week trade window
