Nor would I if I was a Hawks fan. If they get Zach and they win a Premiership I don’t think Hawks fans will mind Mitchell stepping on a few toes. Learning is, Essendon needs to become bold and aggressive and do the same if it wants to be successful too. Nice clubs don’t win flags.

The cats take risks on players and more often than not it pays off. Look at Smith - and Stengel. I’d love to see Essendon get in a position where the club and culture is strong and we can take those kind of risks

Pretty short sighted by Mitchell if true. Puts a massive target on his back. Good luck getting any reasonable trades with Essendon in the future, and good luck getting any fun players to come to dinner with him and his wife.

I think id like it to be the two days before the game and then have him on the boundary line at the game to help mentor players in that moment

Because Merrett instigated the whole mess and he didn’t do it by going to them. All rumours have also indicated that he’s only interested in landing at the Hawks. The Hawks actually have more bargaining power in this situation than most on here are giving them credit for. They don’t have to take Merrett, he sought them out. If he stays with us the whole situation has been messy and will remain a talking point/shadow over the list next year. If he goes for unders because that’s all we can get and we don’t want the shadow/talk to deal with all year, the Hawks win. If we play hard ball and put a huge price on his head, they can probably use that to bargain down the price on Trac and come out as winners. If they don’t take either they’ve made two other clubs ■■■■ around all trade period over two different want away A graders, who’s absence would absolutely weaken either side who then might get desperate to get out and go for unders to somewhere else that’s largely irrelevant.
I think the only way to have a satisfactory outcome here is to bring more clubs into the deal that facilitates moves for both Peteacca and Merrett and nets us draft selections that are probably not outright wins but close to fair in terms of value.
