I’d be more than happy to play Merrett in the VFL next year than trade him to Hawthorn for Pick 8.
I still believe some, even many, of Clubs in the window will make a play for him, Collingwood have already been mentioned, if Saints miss Flanders, I wouldn’t be surprised if they had a look. Even the interstate Clubs might have a crack and I haven’t even got to Geelong.
As for Hawthorn screwing us around, who cares, we’ve been doing to ourselves for 20 years.

I don’t agree. I think they’re a very good side, but no better than the top 5 or so.
If they’re better than Geelong & co., what happened the first week of the finals? They only just prevailed over Collingwood. And they finished 3rd on the ladder after H&A, 2pts clear of Collingwood, GWS and Freo.

And had 73 goals contributed by a 35yo. I think they’re going far too early for a Merrett top-up style trade and would be a glorious death ride next year.

Things are never as good or as bad as you think is one of the best sayings in football. I remember watching Melbourne win their flag and thinking they had a great side. Better than Richmond’s recent premiership sides, I’ve no doubt there is a lot of luck in football.

I think it’s true for many.
On here it’s a different story but I don’t think we anywhere near represent most supporters.
You only have to look at how many people were stoked at the SSS trades or the Shiel trade full well knowing that we were throwing away our future to never be more than a 8th-12th placed side.
Even now there are plenty of fans who don’t want to see us bottom out, who don’t want to face a rebuild and would rather keep Draper, Merrett etc for another 12th placed finish rather than hit the bottom.
I actually don’t understand why some people hate the thought of winning a spoon

winning a spoon is probably more difficult than winning a premiership. Look at the competition the last 5 years.
