Trade talk - from September 2025 (Part 8)

While fair, not sure how the outcome can be “better” with less assets.

Drafting been an issue for 20 years, that issue was dealt with after a long time coming

I agree about the fitness, should have been issue 1, but they’ve focussed on it now.

culture, players should have been cut sooner, including draper and stringer cos they’ve been ■■■■ for professional afl lifestyle culture. Scott will be held to account for that as he won’t get another contract and most likely be sacked next year.

who else would you like held to account, Barham has gone, he was the biggest driver of this path who else ?

I imagine any of the board members who helped him force the issue and out the previous board will be on shaky ground when scott is replaced, and no doubt the hird sycophant coteries will be pushing their members for those spots.

so again who else are you wanting to be held to account at present ?

Appreciate your perspective.

Where is the ceo?

You tell me? He was at the B&F. Where else should he have been that he wasn’t?

Are you suggesting he’s going to Port or elsewhere coz he’s had enough?

No, why didn’t we hear from him? He’s running the whole club.

Vozzo was on SEN breakfast 10 days ago.

I personally don’t think we needed to hear more from Vozzo. Andrew Welsh became President and did a good job imo communicating on behalf of the club.

Equally valid question…. Don’t we hear too much talk out of Essendon?

I think they’ve communicated ok the last two weeks.

Not saying it will be better.

Just that I’m not surprised we didn’t get band 1, that I never expected band 1 or thought we should have played the game in order to get band 1 and that I’m fine with band 2.

Playing contract roulette with Draper had a risky outcome attached that I personally believe had the worst case scenario with it.

And to add to that, we likely have a plan beyond band 2 that we have recieved and that has been communicated with others.

Geelong & Collingwood CEOs didnt do a speech at their BnF, just the presidents.

edit. Just the president for Brisbane too.

My question is “why are you fine with band 2”, for a player who has clearly been amongst our most important players, and to some degrees our spiritual leader.

Forget about the fact he did his achilles. Why should we be happy with band 2 compo for one of the players that actually makes a difference, and is also one of our most important marketable players to the kids? Because we overpaid to help StKilda and North get decent compo for Gresham and McKay. There is no way we should be happy with this result, while also building a team that just won the flag with a team of players younger than 22. This is a terrible, terrible result. For Essendon, and for the league.

I’d like to hear a clear statement about our plans going forward ie are we rebuilding? Is there going to be changes in the coaching department? Are we going to appoint a head of Development? Not a word salad but a clear plan.

See this is where we differ fundamentally.

I clearly don’t rate him anywhere near to the level that you do.

And I can’t ignore his Pokémon attitude to collecting every major injury he can.

With regard to McKay and Gresham, we were stupid enough to play the game and never should have. So now we have two potato’s on our list.

Brisbane are a lot smarter than we were. Good on them.

The CEO is meant to be setting the direction of the organisation. It would be good to communicate what the direction is. The board should be just oversight and endorsing the Plan. Welsh said we are not rebuilding but we are hitting the draft and can’t attract quality players to the club. It would be good to be honest and not bullshit everyone. But the has been fairly good for 20 years at bullshitting themselves and everyone else.

You will get a 15 minute presentation of the organisational plan at the AGM in early December from Vozzo.

Well said….its just like Richmond of the late 80’s and 1990’s. Basket case that took decades to fix. We;re on the right path in my view….and that’s coming from a member of 35 years.

I don’t care about him going elsewhere. I do think in a free market we get a better pick than this. And I feel Essendon is being penalised for

  1. managing our cap appropriately.

  2. Helping out other underperforming teams as part of free agency “negotiations”

It can’t be fixed without mistakes and friction. And yes, maybe Brad Scott won’t last to see out his contract. Irrespective of this, the overarching focus and work going on I think is exactly what’s needed at Essendon in terms of prioritising what’s needed. And yes, mistakes and challenges come with organisational change.

And aren’t we stuck with Scott because he has the relationship with AFL house. If that can’t even get us a bump in compo, then what’s the point?

I don’t think so.

If he nominated Brisbane the best they would offer would be their first rounder. That’s pick 19.

Cats are about to do the same for Marshall, who though older is also better.

If it was a good relationship he wouldn’t have ended up at Essendon.

Well said. And the fact our own incompetence contributed to it is why we deserve answers.
