Trade talk - from September 2025 (Part 8)

So we have 20,25,28

Any chance we can trade two of those for ad top 10 pick

Loving all the Simpsons references.

Gee I’d like to put some ā€œspeed holesā€ in Mitchell’s car

I tend to think compo picks are more negotiated outcomes between all parties, and much more transparent, than others think.

With this in mind I wait to see what happens with our compo pick, because I’m certain there would be a plan for that.

No. You’d need to use all 3 to even think about getting any bites.

All three might be needed in order to trade. FC and GC might be willing sellers.

FC want to move theirs to protect themselves from a Charlie Dean bid, but more likely want a future pick to use for Walker next year.

GC will use Flanders pick plus something else to get Petracca. Then could load up on points with pick 13, 16 and our second rounders.

Maybe you need another break then…not sure how posting this would make you feel better? Or are you looking to drag others into your pit of despair?!

Throw in another two first rounders from the Zak Merrett deal and there’s huge opportunity to get in some young talent.
Not forgetting of course that Zak himself was pick 26 and who would have thought he ended up this good.

You never know, might only need 1

Richmond got north’s future first for pick 24ish

I mean, for a start the deal was an end of first plus a future second (so 2 picks), not one.

Add to that the strength of last years draft and the sheer idiocy of North. Nothing like that is happening this year

I think we’ll hang onto all of these and hope the desperation at the draft by a club who really wants someone will get us overs…maybe help us get an extra pick next year. It’s an underwhelming situation we find ourselves in tbh.

It’s hard to sell someone the glass is half full when they can’t even see there’s a glass there

Theres a few clubs in the top 10 either looking to trade out, or to collect draft capital, I’m sure we’ll be of interest to them.

Under the new indexing, unless you want to match your bids with your earliest first rounders, then second rounders are gold.

Carlton and GC come to mind.

Yep. GC and Carlton the obvious ones.

Id try for 8+f1+26 (though 40 would be more likely) from Hawthorn for Merrett.

Draper compo + 2 2nds to GC or Carlton for one of their picks (hopefully get a later pick back depending on point values).

Leaves us with 4 top 10 picks (prior to bidding), an extra first next year and hopefully enough points for Sweid (if not, just bring a f3 forward or trade someone else out).

Ok, let’s have it on the table!

I’m one of those ā€˜optimists’ when it comes to this regime. However I was also one to back in the previous regime because it’s my strong view Essendon above all else needs a period of calm, stability and a runway to implement significant change after a long period of carnage not seen in Australian professional sport (saga). We’ve seen how the Melbourne FC have disintegrated due to cultural failure so you have to accept and recognise Essendon is a much more challenging solve than 95% of fans appreciate. Thsts my context.

Now, to the current day. I’m far from convinced Scott is a great coach. I don’t think he is. I don’t know much about Mac Pherson and I have faith and confidence Craig Vozzo will be a successful administrator of the footy program.

A club in transformational change. A cultural reset. Standards under microscope. All seeing significant change. Noses get put out of joint. Old ways challenged. Some staff unhappy and disgruntled. Some players getting rude awakening and not taking feedback well. Move them on if they won’t buy in. Don’t change the people, change the people. ā€œAll in, all heartā€ as Welsh says.

Of course there’s challenges and problems, we’re dealing with a club that needs to do things very differently to the past. Of course there’s friction. People challenging each other. Mistakes will be made and there’s been plenty of them.

Overall. I’m confident there’s a genuine effort to transform this club. To fix culture and standards. Fitness and conditioning now is seen as a good outcome. Yes, 12 months too late.

It’s easy to be disgruntled and dwell on the past but it’s time to look forward. There’s going to be more mistakes and understandably more internal challenges. We will likely win just 5-6 games in 2026 but that to me won’t necessarily reflect the progress and positive stuff going on inside the Club. However I’m more confident now in the overarching work that’s going on at Essendon than I’ve been previously.

Zero chance I reckon. More likely we trade those for a pick 15, which then turns into a missed pick, then 20,25,28 all become guns.

18 odd LTIs
Losing 13? Games in a row
Not winning any finals for over 2 decades.
No captain.

There’s plenty of reasons.
Right now the only thing Essendon has going for it is that the base is near the airport so you can leave easily.

They are completely negotiated. The fact that our ā€œnegotiationā€ only turned into band 2 is a complete failure

I will wait and see how it plays out tbh
