Trade talk - from September 2025 (Part 9)

They won’t sign off on that deal but it’s got the ball rolling and now it will be about using picks to get higher up the draft so the final deal ends up with is getting higher up the draft I think. Love how Dermie thinks it’s overs from a hawks perspective.

HH is not someone we need as we already have too many selections this year vs spots. I think now a deal will get done but it won’t be this deal.

As posted above given the outside world sees us as a basket case it’s hard to get players to come. A third club might be involved to get higher picks. Who needs HH on their list?

We’ll I’d never heard of him until a week ago and I just watched 2 mins of his debut highlights so I’m pretty sure I have a good read on him as a player.

On a serious note, I’m indifferent on HH. As I mentioned above, I’d do the deal without him, and if we swap him for another 3rd or 3rd > 2nd upgrade, even better.

(Of course we should make them sweat for 24 hrs to see what other cream we can get on top, but fundamentally they’ve hit the right price for us to do the deal).

I wouldn’t do that deal.

  • Pick 9 will likely be pick 14
  • All other picks will likely be late first/second rounders
  • Hustwaite isn’t much chop

That price tag might seem generous, but it’s not. It doesn’t help Essendon at all. Compare it with -

  • 6 x Crichton medalist
  • 2 x All Australian
  • Contracted captain
  • One of the best kicks in the AFL
  • Remarkable durability

How does that help Hawthorn? Probably nets them a Grand Final. Possibly even a dynasty.

Take that trade? No ■■■■■■■ way. We’re not desperate, we can revisit next year.

The problems is you say ‘first rounders’ which they are, but I think we need to talk about ‘top 10 picks’ , not just stat ‘first rounders’ as its highly compromised going forward.

Port won’t accept pick 18 as a ‘first rounder’ for Butters, they will talk top 10 picks.

We need A grade talent and if we are trading an A grader, we need the best % to get one in the draft - top 10 picks

do the deal then trade with FCFC for one of their 2 mid 1st picks (assuming curnow deals goes through)

if they use both those picks they won’t have enough points for Dean without going into deficit next year when they’'ll need the points for walker

we take 5(sharp),6(cumming),11(phillipou), 27(sweid) to draft

honestly that’s probably too generous in terms of points, we could ask for something next year back

There is a reason this offer is happening now. They know it’s not their final offer. We know it isn’t too. Everyone just chill and wait.

If you’re throwing around Zach’s age as a reason we won’t get a better haul for him, you need to rethink that. He will play until mid 30s easily. Can easily roll into a Zorko style half back distributor role too.

Fair chance Zach has a longer AFL career than Hustwaite from here on out.

When Merret becomes their best player and potently win thier b&f Hawks will be laughing all the way to the bank of what a bargin they got

Meanwhile we are stuck with a couple of early teen picks and a crap fringe player lols

You’ve said this 5 times. We get it.

The point is a formal offer has been made and even this opening offer is acceptable, so by all means we turn the screws for the next 30 (?) hours but fundamentally this deal needs to get done and not fall over.

What I’ve learnt this trade period is too many people don’t use dark mode.

The major issue there is that it’s likely Dean is bid on prior to either of their picks.
Just means they can move the other one for something as well though (likely future).

Wonder if 10 + 11 for 22 + 30 + 31 + F2 works. Probably not enough.

has Merrett put in a trade request yet?

I don’t know what you’re on about. Just sit tight.

most sensible post on blitz
