Training - 27th Feb

Astro Bomber self-paddling here.

I disagree, though there is still no way our smalls would be near as good as Elliott and Cameron if only they stayed closer to goals.

Elliott and Cameron both still work outside the arc regularly. Then players like Hill, McReery, Bedford now Schulz, they all pressure up and back constantly. I’d say the closest player to a stay at home small forward is Rioli from Port.

It’s part of the role now. They all do it to some degree.

Brett Daniels another who does that terrifically well. They’re great to watch all of those guys.

Theres nothing slow about Mckay, Reid, Ridley relative to whats required of tall defensive groups.

I’m starting to think it’s all about two things: speed of ball movement (which may or may not be legspeed, doesn’t matter) and gut running.

These two make you competitive in contemporary footy of swarming, rolling, zoning and alertness to transitions. These two things sustained over a season make you a team to take seriously.

I’ve gone from thinking we’ll win a final to we’ll be bottom 4.

It hurts.

Uhm nup. Just no. Weid makes Jetta look tough.

Ridley might be the fastest 195cm backman in the league. McGrath is extremely fast and Redman isn’t slow either. The issue isn’t their speed but the speed at which they move the ball.

Ill say it again, we look slow because we move the ball slowly, not because of the actual speed of our defenders.

What world are you living on?

How many times has Jones kicked 3 or more?

Weideman?

Just deal with the fact we have seen more out of Weideman, than Jones.

I’m not even saying Weideman is that good, but he has currently showed more than Jones. That should be a rocket for Jones.

Not at Essendon he hasn’t shown more. Yes he kicked 5 goals against the Cats, then went goalless for a string of weeks. He plays with zero intent, and actually looks clueless and disinterested on the ground.

There’s plenty to play out in any given season, look at the bloosers and GWS last season, both were 14th/15th at one point

Totally ignoring that the season hasn’t even started and Essendon haven’t played a match with half effort or higher yet

Indictment is we got rid of our VFL best n fairest and kept these two duds on our list

You have NFI

Imagine thinking our small forward stocks dont need addressing. Fk me. They are all SH*T

Indictment on Blitz how often that term is used around here.

Jones kicked more goals in his first season that Weideman has any any of his 8 seasons.

Jones also didn’t have the opportunity to play against Essendon too.

Weideman avg 1.5 goals a game in 2020 under shortened quarters looked promising at Dees.

As a forward Laverde does more without the footy than Weid & Jones, Tackles, disposals.

If you had to back in one of Jones/Weid, you would likely back Jones in due to younger and more chance of development/progression.
Don’t think weideman will make it.
maybe compare him to Shaun McKernan who was serviceable for us and was better in second half of career.

Jones kicked more goals in his first season than McKernan did in any of his career, a bit surprising

We do have duds so it must be used when appropriate

I’m not sure if he’s even playing well against the red team at training.

Prove wrong then. Show me the percentage Cameron and Elliot spend outside their forward half in a season. You really have NFI
