Training - 27th Feb

No room for Lav in the backline presuming Reid and McKay combo works, so it’s either forward or mid. I like the idea of him forward, will at worst crash packs and allow Gresham/Menzie & co. to collect the crumbs. The worry will be the injuries he used to get from playing forward.

Yes we might say that because he’s not ready.
I’ve seen him play deep forward in match sim about 10 times and he hasn’t taken one mark.

It has to be said @All-Star_Bomber_18 is a legend for his reports and follow ups to questions today.
Thank you mate.

Lav doesn’t even do that in defence. Why would he do it in the foreardline. Lav is strong, but he isn’t tough at the footy imo.

He never had a full season up forward though, so it’s unfair to write him off. He only found match consistency once he was in the backline - that’s the worry for me, if he is prone to injury the way he was playing forward.

EDIT Looking at the link:

2023 19 games 1 goal
2022 22 games 0 goals
2021 23 games 1 goal
2020 6 games 6 goals
2019 10 games 11 goals
2018 7 games 5 goals
2017 5 games 1 goal
2016 9 games 8 goals
2015 9 games 5 goals

Attacking the ball instead of manning a player.

I’d love to put our ■■■■■ performance down to it being a practice game but our full ground defence was woeful and that’s something you can get right even if not cracking in at 100%

Why worry about that?

It will be Brisbane’s problem …not ours

Lavs powerful tackle shrug and hand off to Walla for his goal of the century against North was immense.

Would love to see him get another crack up forward.

In how many games?

We’re really, truly ■■■■■■ if with one week before the season starts we decide to shift journeyman Lav from defence to forward as some sort of solution.

Laverde did have some craft as a forward - but I seem to remember he started to develop the yips a bit during his set shots. But he could always compete, and was often able to find space in the forward line.

He obviously has more exposed form as a defender - but I’d say him training forward has more to do with the positional flexibility that Scott has been talking about. When Jones or Weid are stinking it up in the forward line, you need someone to swing forward to try and move the needle.

If that’s the forward six for round 1 the ball will go back the other way quicker then it went in but then again with our ball movement walking pace is quicker!

We’ve missed the small forwards pressure x 2 but hey let’s play excess back-man in the forward line lol

Don’t ever change essendon !

Bewick senior was on the radio the other morning and they asked him about young Koby.

You could tell he was trying to downplay the lad but it was obvious he thinks he’s pretty good.

Laverde playing up forward, let alone being considered for the starting 22 shows you the sad state of our list

We would have to have close to the worst forward line in the league

My ideal team would have have all of the following in it

Jayden, Jaiden, Jayden, Jade, Jake, Jake, Jye, Jye, Nick, Nic, Nik and Nick plus Sam, Sam and Sam, Zach and Zach, Ben plus Ben, along with Archie and Archie. I’d just love to hear the calls for the ball.

We’ve all seen Draper take marks up forward in matches. He is a presence and from reports has improved his kicking.
He would be a threat in the goal square which is more than you can say for Weideman and jones
He’s also more likely to bring the ball to ground and now seems to be in full training

What are you basing this on. Him being always injured in his early years and getting no continuity. Play along side other second string forwards like Mitch Brown and Shaun McKernan. Then there is the midfield that couldn’t deliver an Uber meal.
