BBM!!
I think laverde will do well as a forward - wasnt he basically our 2nd fwd when he was a forward?
Now hed be a 3rd with wright and langers youd think… could actually work!
Obviously BDB has said some players are training in all different postions as we will need the flexibility throughout the season with injuries/etc
So Tsatas likely?
There is your problem and it has been for a while. In that forward line there is literally one guy that defends with a touch of speed. Langford to his credit defends too, but Perkins and stringer are basically like talls with their lack of defensive pressure and Jones and Wright forget it. Small defensive pressure forwards and size in the midfield have been a major weakness that dodoro hasn’t addressed in forever.
That 2020 teams more exciting than anything we’ve seen from last couple years
If Draper not fit for FF I would use Bryan or Vigo at Ff and wright at ChF. You may say vigo not ready but he can take a mark and Kick. He is about Reid’s size
Bryan can ruck and swap with Goldie for some big goal square presence
Not sure how he would go but I believe he would be a better option than Jones or Weideman
Finally Hind for speed and defensive pressure on forward line. He showed that v Saints last week. In before Perkins
And Roberts Sub. He has been showing something as a small forward
Lual, Hayes, Heppell
J.Davey, Cox,Roberts
Guelfi, Setterfield, A. Davey
Hind, Weid, Menzie
Vigo, Lav, Draper
Bryan, Shiel, Hobbs
Thanks.
Anyone stand out?
(I read your comments about Lav…probably more interested in how Roberts, Hobbs & J Davey went)
Hard to say, probably say the match sim went for 40min, most got involved.
Durham stands out, his attack on the ball is a feature.
Hobbs got a bit of it on the outside. Roberts and Jayden didn’t do much
But it is main training in season now, so all focus is getting match day ready.
Problem with LAV as a forward is that he has a very slow turning circle. Having said that he may still be our best option, he will at least compete.
Thanks again- I should’ve been clearer - was there anyone in the red team who particularly stood out?
Ah right. Mmm nobody made a statement to say pick me! But like I said it was only a short match sim.
My recollection is that in his last period as a forward he actually did quite well, including his kicking.
Again. Laverde was never a good forward. Ever.
I don’t agree. We had most of our wins last season without him in the team.
We’re a better team with him playing well. Unfortunately after the Carlton game he couldn’t make much impact.
No idea if club is serious on Lav but he has learnt a lot on positioning in marking contests and reading the play since going back the last 4 or so years. It would be interesting with how much he has learnt to see how that translates now to forward craft.
Baldwin was talking to us on the podcast and he even noted how much he has learnt playing as a defender and how he would tackle forward craft differently due to that education.
Kicking for goal would still be the concern but i could easily see him being more potent in marking up forward… especially with how much stronger he is now.
