Training 7th March 2020

I guess you didn’t hear the swooning in his thread earlier today. Plus long sleeves, plus the finger-licking before the ball arrived.

Anyone watch Hirdy in his first practice match at Sunshine reserve several years ago of course? I was there and I think he wore 49 in that day and had about 30 possessions. He was virtually an unknown talent. I think he was something like pick 72.

Son if the original ‘could have been’. Not sure if that’s a good thing or not, but Greg Champion might have to get his songwriting boots on.

Yep, I was there. Couldn’t believe how this unknown kid wearing #49 was dominating the game and all the senior players went up to him at 3/4 time. I went asked one of the team officials who he was and they just showed me the team sheet. Number 49 was James Hird. Went to work on Monday and told another Essendon tragic that I thought I just saw a future star for us on the weekend at the practice game.

Skinner Reserve, in Sunshine?

Only thing I remember from various pre-season games there is 1) getting the backs of my legs badly sunburnt once and 2) Ridley kicking a banana from the boundary line that went through for a point then came back out between the goal posts. It was windy that day.

Not him

Skill level by foot and hand has never been an issue.

Who was this young Hird you talk of playing and practising in the Sunshine? How did he turn out? Could he play? Did he entertain? Was he a loyal and decent person?

He also took a very casual one hander late in the WEagles game, about 3 mins before the end of the match. He plucked it out of the air with ridiculous ease, made all the more impressive by his running back towards the oncoming pack. If you blinked you could have easily missed it, clean as.

Definitely fantastic to have that

And all are well advanced in their recoveries also. All going well be fit and firing by mid year

Cheers for the report as always

He also took a similar one hander in match sim in Bendigo. Can make the freakish look very nonchalant you have to look twice like did I just see that. Reminded me a little of Darryl White and he become far more self asured as his confidence grew… maybe the same for Nigel.

I noticed him wearing the No 49. It’s a nice touch I reckon.

Why are people assuming the young guy is a ruck? Why couldn’t he be a key fwd or back? Surely we need a tall back more than another raw ruck.

Because the two people who reported on training and saw him train said he was a ruckman.

Looks like Riley Bowman to me. Could be wrong.

Looks like Banksy to me

I thought @THE_DON1 said somewhere that it isn’t Bowman

He was training with Phillips, Bellchambers, Bryan and Smack doing ruck work.

I took an educated guess and and came to the conclusion they were trying him out for the ruck

Yeah, it may not be him.

Looks similar but just with shaggy hair.
