H-index is where it’s really at.

Exactly. The club says they appreciate having supporters turn up to training and the players seem to as well. How hard is it to just put up the training times on the website?

I always thought @nackers lived walking distance from the hanger. He would look out his window, see the boys drive up and take the brief three minute walk down to the ground.

The fact that you provide us so much content on a 3 hour round trip is just amazing. Thank you even more so now. I love the club but not three hour drive love.

I used to think you were ok @theDJR until your VFL commentating led to your likes-per-post KPI being diluted to one in a million and I realised you were like Kmart.

One of the guys I watch with does live literally across the road, so he keeps me informed of what’s happening even on the days without a full session.

Daniher had 1 good year and that’s it’s

I was referring to recent history

Bit harsh on Daniher not being a success

pick 10 draft pick (bidded on at 7)
we received pick 7 on his exit.
He at least held his value.
At his best he looked like he could have challenged as one of the AFL greats, if he could get his goal kicking in order.

You must have simply forgotten Fletcher.

Jake Long had 5 years on the list, thats probably as long as the average footballer.

Whether the next training report is today or tomorrow I can’t wait to hear about the new boys. Let’s be brutally honest, it’s time for these lads to step up. No more swanning around “looking good” or “looking fit” or whatever. I want speccies from the big boys and freak goals from the smalls or we’re in delist territory.

James Hird also. He wasn’t taken as a f/s, nor eligible to be. But let’s face it, it is the only reason he made it to the club, and probably the only reason we gave him a chance.

Ah yes, but since Coleman there have been a string of Messiahs. Some more successful than others. Really, Joe never reached his potential as he was never in a team good enough to get the ball to him often enough, thern there was injury and his MFFA attitude: (Making Footy Fun Again).

It is no doubt it’s best to build fitness in match simulation drills, improving skills, strategy and game sense all in one. Plus also being more specific fitness.

However, the actual reason you will see them doing more running drills at the start of the season, plus cross training such as bike, rower, etc. is to reduce injury risk early on the season whilst they build training loads.

And building training loads is not a simple as building the kms in the legs. It is building the amount of contested work, the number of accelerations/decelerations/change of direction work. Hit the players with this day 1 and you are guaranteeing a longer injury list.

What were the expectations for James Hird when he joined the club? Did fans back then see him as a long shot? After he got some games in the 1’s how long before people realised we had something special? I was only paying vague attention to AFL back then

There were pretty much no expectations on Hird when he began. His father only played a handful of senior games, and his grandfather was known only as an administrator after whom a grandstand had been named. But there was no fanfare or expectation of him when he first played. From memory, he played a few games in the latter half of 92 after being injured when first drafted, and no-one knew him from a bar of soap. He played pretty well from the start, but not really touted as a young star until well into 93.

Given no one is allowed in to spectate at the moment, why would they bother?

He played a game early in 1992, and (IIRC) broke his ribs.

Later that year I remember raving about him prior to his re-debut, and all I got was a “Shane Heard is still on our list?”

No training today

I was distracted by Paul Hills during Hird’s early games. Hills looked an outrageously exciting talent during the Fosters Cup in 1993. tbf he ended up playing some good finals and a decent GF for us too.

I think we are going to find out next year how good Daniher actually is. He will be playing in a top club with plenty of ball going into the 50. I totally expect him to rip us apart.

No expectations, no fanfare. He was just another player really.
It’s been made well known that Sheeds very almost delisted him after 1 year.
But the following year it was very obvious, very quickly he was a genuine star.
