100 percent I thought maybe after that Geelong game kicking five it might twig for him but alas it didn’t.
One would hope that realising that this could be his last year in the afl will fire him up or it could cripple him
So stop Martin, stop ball movement.
That shouldn’t take more than 3 weeks for opposition to work out. It reminds me of, stop Saad and McKenna run and stop the whole team scoring.
Having Ridley, Ried, Redmond & Martin distributing well by Foot is going to be hard for the opposition to shut down.
Always wondered what happened to this guy!
Reminds me of stop Daicos stop Collingwood. Turns out that wasn’t as easy as people thought.
I don’t know why people think it’s as simplistic as that
Teams tried to tag Nick Daicos when playing HBF, it didn’t work. His running capacity and work rate blew them up often. Serious footy smarts on him also
Every side has preferred players in defence they want to try get the ball to who makes good decisions and has the skills to take on risky attacking options. And look to overlap with run.
The more the better so hopefully all of Martin, Redman, Ridley and Reid for that matter will be weapons for us out of defence
I think Martin will be getting the ball more than ever which is what we want. When he is on wing can have periods where not involved as per HFF.
Working it out is one thing, executing it effectively is another matter.
Thst 5 goal effort in the Cats game wasn’t indicative of anything substantial imo. The marks he took were largely uncontested and the goals were pretty simple. What we need to see from Weed are contested marks and aggressive movement and physical influence in contests. These traits weren’t on display on this day. There’s 5 goals, then there’s 5 goals. After all these years he won’t get there. You have these natural traits, or you don’t. He doesn’t.
Of course it was dynamic, they were playing against us, forward pressure is our weakness.
if he can get a guernsey against Port, might get the favourable matchup on Ratagolea again.
It was nice that day to finally see a key forward work out if Walla had the ball to make a lead to space, though.
I reckon three of his goals were due to realizing that a decent lead would be honoured with a pin point pass.
Hawks managed to rough up Daicos and the team for a morale boosting win over the Pies last season.
Because he isn’t worried about cheap shots and plays like he’s not worried about getting seriously cleaned up
I’d assume it’s the same product as I will be using this season when he goes for a run off HB or pulls off a risky kick into the middle…
Talking about license for risky centering kicks in the defensive half, as good as Nic Martin is he is almost as prone to the risky dump kick under pressure as Pidge McGrath is. As we know from the Port game, this can turn a creditable win into a disasterous loss at the death.
Gee, referencing the Port game is a bit unfair given the heat in that game late. Nic is by far one of the better users
Stupid Essendon, trying to do something different.
Different doesn’t work, better does.
If he is going to be one of our main distributors out of defence, he will be copping a lot more physical attention from the opposition. I hope he and the team have plans in place to combat it
Its interesting with additions how good a “kick” they are.
would assume goldy is better than Draper in general play, but mostly safe kicks.
Gresham - called greedy sometimes at Saints, but if he plays high half forward, is he dangerous enough with the footy?
Duursma’s job at port was to run away from the footy and fill space.
McKay, said to be decent kick for a defender, but so was Zerk. not really brought in for kicking.
Reid - will be a nice addition down back, good by foot.
