So I caught a train through the new tunnel. So many people out for the day. Felt like we were living in the future.

Yeah Anzac and Parkville, pretty open concourse, easy enough to get around Anzac (the shrine) not very deep, Parkville was further down to platform level. Flet like modern station concourses. The screen doors are strange to me, as I haven’t travelled on metros with them. Worked well.

My son’s obsessed with trains so we visited the 5 new stations yesterday. Is the plan for you to be able to get from Flinders St Station to Town Hall station underground at some stage? You can get from Melbourne Central to State Library station but as far as I could tell you could not get from Town Hall to Flinders St?

As far as I know there is a direct underground connection between town hall and Flinders st
I believe it was open yesterday, but didn’t go through it

Yes you could get to Flinders St from Town Hall statiion yeaterday at about 4-5pm when I was there. For me it just seemed that there were so many elevators at Town Hall station and it was far larger than I thought would be required.

Also good but it’s also much easier to enjoy a nice drink at home.
Yeah works doing that for us as well. I could get a cab charge to work and then we all go together but I feel like an arse and feel bad for them. It’s in the city and I dont want to ask them to pay for parking, but i don’t want to catch public transport either to get to the function.
What line is this new tunnel on? Does any of the Upfield line go through it?

It’s Sunbury to East Pakenham. Unfortunately Upfield only intersects at Melb Central and Flinders St, although if you don’t mind a walk it’s about 10 minutes from Macaulay station to Arden Station. Or the Sydney Rd tram is a direct connection at Parkville.
That said, the tunnel is only part time until February while they shake out any issues.
(And on the upfield line it should improve slightly with more loop capacity, but it is still limited by the single track at the upfield end, which seems an incredibly easy fix that they should have done by now given the number of apartments through Brunswick that need rail capacity)
Safer for all if you catch a train from your work Christmas party.
