Most European countries have their own mobile network. An E SIM is (normally) not a local SIM. Its normally a third party SIM that has organised local access via a bilateral agreement of some sort. More often than not, an E SIM will fail to connect as you enter a new country/area with a different local or dominant network. This hapens all the time and is very frustrating for users. Once you figure out how to get your phone working again, you will have to put up with low data speeds as you are not a priority on the local network.
I travel remotely for months and buy a local 5G SIM with unlimited interent in each country. In Greece, its cost me EUD15 for unlimited 5G for 1 month, Croatia and Montenegro is about the same. I get coverage everywhere, even out on all the island, whereas E SIMS have limited coverage and drop out a lot. IMO, even an Australian Vodafone SIM is better than an E SIM
And it doesnât run out.
I put in $25 (I think US$) and only used $10.13 of it.
Naturally, used hotel WiFi everywhere.
Seems to $1.19/Gb in Western Europe.
And theyâve just announced their mobile app is now up and running.
HKIA has plenty of free wifi access.

Travelling makes me realise how much I hate Seppos
Today in Alberobello (place with the tiny huts, called Trulli) there is a main street where all the Trulli are basically knick-knack shops and as you could imagine, very busy.

Yeah, thatâs why I try to make sure I use a real distinct aussie accent when talking to my wife, make sure people know Iâm not one of them
My old uni mate and I have realised that getting a tailored trip means we donât have to drop into every cathedral in the vicinityâŚand keep away from the seppos.
Just ran into a young couple in Utrecht (they had to leave early) and a group of blokes in the Amsterdam hotel.
Mrs Azza and I got sandwiched between 2 x couples from California whilst standing in line to enter the Catacombs in Paris. That was an hour and a half of torture.
We then get to the front and one of the women has a Karen moment when she discovers that there are no lifts/escalators and she has to take the stairs. Thankfully while she melted down we got to go in ahead of her and didn;t have to listen to any more of the bullshit.
Melbourne airport international arrivals is horrifically inefficient

Melbourne just is a horrible setup though like most Australian airports. We donât future proof most of our airports
So I was due to leave Rome last Thursday at 11:30am, however there were massive storms and my flight was delayed 1hr 15 minutes. As a result, I then missed my connecting Etihad flight to Melbourne as we only had a 55 minute layover.
After spending a night in Abu Dhabi, where we only had access to our carry on luggage, we then were due to leave at 8:40pm, however a passenger was unwell and so we were stuck on the tarmac for two hours. Then we arrived in Melbourne and the border checks / customs was horrific lol
Was a nightmare trip home but glad Iâm back
Spewing customs didnât let me bring into the country the cipolla seeds I bought from Tropea though. I shouldnât have declared them on return

Two years ago I was due to fly out of Amman at 6.30pm (Thursday) to Dubai followed by a 4-5 hour stopover there before my flight to Perth.
ButâŚthere had been a massive once in a lifetime storm over Dubai and the airport got flooded cancelling/delaying heaps of flights.
My flight from Amman was delayed over 7 hours meaning I missed my connecting flight to Perth.
Arrived in Dubai around 5.50am (Friday) and then spent 6-7 hours in a mob (it certainly wasnât an organised queue) before I was able to get a new ticket for a flight to Perth at 2.30am on Saturday.
By the time I got that ticket, Iâd been awake for about 30or so hours and then had to wait another 13-14 before my Perth flight.
It was a shocker.
There were two silver linings to the cloudâŚone was that it was at the end of my trip so I didnât miss out on seeing Egypt & JordanâŚthe other was that I slept almost the entire flight from Dubai to Perth (Iâm normally a very poor sleeper on planes).
