Yeah, that’s doable. I wouldn’t do it personally but if everything runs on time you will be fine.
I’ve had too many delays recently so to save the hassle we just go the day before if flying out of SYD or MEL.
Hmmm thanks.
I’m more concerned with the outbound connection. With linked bookings and luggage checked all the way to Santiago, what are QANTAS’s obligations if the Mel-Syd flight is delayed and my connection time is squeezed?
On the same PNR Qantas is on the hook to get you to your destination. If your connecting flight is delayed or cancelled they have the ability to hold the departing International flight for a short period (often there will be multiple passengers doing the same thing as you)
If it’s super late then Qantas would put you up in a hotel and get you on the next days flight. You should be fine, I just don’t like rushing at the airport so try to cover my bases
Thanks again
Does anyone know about booking Indian trains? I’ve booked a tour across the south of India in October, ending at Cochin (now called Kochi, it seems). I want to add on a couple of days at a resort in Goa before I fly back to Delhi for the flight home. Then I had the bright idea of an overnight train journey from Cochin to Goa instead of a short flight. I’ve looked around a bit online, and there’s a train called the Rajdhani Express that makes that journey overnight, from 10.30 pm to about 10.30 am, and that’s what I’d like to do.
Apparently the way to do it is book a First Class Airconditioned Sleeper, which gets you a seat in a two-person or four-person “coupe” (i.e., cabin) where the seats convert into beds that are quite comfortable, reasonable food is served to you in the cabin, and there are western toilets (shared) that are reasonably clean. I would want to book a two-person cabin.
Can anybody a) confirm from personal experience or reliable accounts that all of the above is true about that train, and b) tell me an efficient and reliable way to go about booking a berth in a two-person coupe? I’m not too keen on sharing with strangers and I’d much prefer one stranger rather than two. I may even book both berths. The tickets don’t seem to be all that expensive.
Any assistance gratefully received.
See what you can find here.
I’ve done Orchha-Allahabad overnight no worries. Can’t attest to your route.
I have done Mumbai to Goa to Kochi by hydrofoil some years ago in a cabin. It was lots of fun and better than some of the train rides I did in India. Though trains in India are an experience buy unreliable.
I have done several train trips but not the route you are after. We did Delhi down to Goa and that was to Madgoan station. We got the first class compartment for the two of us and it cost about $90 each for memory and the journey was 26hrs or thereabouts. Quite an enjoyable trip and mingled with other passengers but the air con was a godsend plus having the room to ourselves.
You need to factor in that Goa is a region and there are several stations depending on which part of Goa you are visiting. Madgoan is in the Southern part of Goa and Vasco de Gama is more central. There is another main one inland that is Northerly but is a fair way out from tourist areas but I can’t think of the name of it.
Definitely visit the man in seat61 as it’s a brilliant source of information. Booking trains in India/Asia I’ve used 12go.Asia plenty of times and they are great
Huge thanks to all. Greatly appreciated. I’ve already looked online but those sites are all new to me.
12go.Asia is a great site to book tickets.
Have a look in the India section of seat61.com. It’s a treasure trove of useful information, including links to official sites to make bookings.
Is there a Japanese equivalent to Bunnings?
Kohnan (コーナン) is the most common similar thing. DCM and Super Viva Home are others.
Dad wants made in Japan stuff like drill bits and circular saw blades.
Latitude have finally told me which of my details (so far) have been stolen. Now to work out what (if anything) I can do about it. VicRoads won’t change a stolen licence number until someone actually uses it fraudulently, which is too late of course. Stupid. This could play out over years, so I’m unlikely to put a stop on credit checks. I think the only thing I can actually do is change mobile number, which would be incredibly disruptive.
Yeah, those places will have them. If you see a Kohnan store, they’ve usually have a Kohnan PRO store attached with alll that gear.
When I was in Osaka some years ago, I purchased some tools for a job we were going there at a shop called Factory Gear. They were not large but had an amazing array of all sorts of hand tools.

If you get it wrong, you might end up in here:

Yeah, I got another email from them y/day. Interestingly, the wording in mine is different and indicates only my license is impacted (which had previously been rolled in the Optus attack).
Will be interesting (read: frustrating) to see what develops in further emails. Wouldn’t surprise me to find other things have been impacted.
