mrs pre says eat at Bon Ton resort.

ps if you don't like cats, skip that place.

And PRE, yeah we don't like cats so we won't go there, but thanks all the same.

Much appreciated all.

The Doe's honeymooned at Langkawi and it was excellent.

We stayed at the Meritus Pelangi Beach Resort & Spa Langkawi. Great place just to relax and do very little. It was just called the  Pelangi Beach Resort then.  That's coming up to 22 years ago. We also did the stopover in Singapore for a couple of days.

I think in HK we stayed at the Royal Plaza or Grand Plaza or soemthing??  About $100 per night and it was perfect, right about Mong Kok station, a heap of eateries, and adjoining to a big shopping centre.  So every morning we hit a different place for brekky then straight onto the underground to where ever we were going.  Then it was about a five minute walk to some street markets.

Man I loved HK.  Fave spot ever.

so Rosso, are you thinking of recreating the Melbourne MID beer ad where the four friends all end up at the same resort together??

With Stallion and Nandoz? Just need another Eye-talian type. Any volunteers?

Yeah I might, just need to find 4 friends ;) I don't have many friends come end of October.

Just got back from Costa Rica - do not recommend unless you like paying 1st world prices for 3rd world services

Which is unfortunate because the country itself is quite nice

OK, ta.  What did you get up to there?

Been thinking about Central America for a while.  Been anywhere else in CA?  Nicaragua?

We went to Guatemala in 2000.  It was great, if a little tense.

Spent New Years in Tamarindo (basically the Cancun/Surfers Paradise/Tijuana of Costa Rica lol) then went up to La Fortuna for a few nights

Much preferred La Fortuna, bit to do (volcano hike, white water rafting, natural hot springs)

Nicaragua is meant to be really good and priced a bit more reasonably when you consider it is Central America lol

Can anyone give me some advice on Tassie?

I have 3 full days to spend but basically flying in and out. Close to airport so basically Hobart or Launceston.

Which is the best to spend a few days driving around? Things like wineries, walking tracks, food being priorities.

There with partner so nice accommodation tips would be great too.

I'd book somewhere near Cradle Mountain for 2 days (about 1.5 hours from Launceston). If you can get in stay at Cradle Mountain Highlanders which is great self contained accom on the edge of the national park. Cradle Mountain is great this time of year with easy grade walks or you can tackle the mountain itself if you're keen (it's a superb walk and rock scramble but I physically paid for it for a week or so, especially after rolling an ankle on the way down.) Do wineries round Launcestion on the last day.

Or if it's Hobart make sure you book MONA.

my 2c...

in hobart I stay at the Henry Jones, its on the waterfront, in an old warehouse/factory with heaps of cool artworks. the food at the Long bar downstairs in this hotel has really nice small plates of food which is great when youre here for work, but you'd probably find a better place to eat, and save this for a nightcap. If i ever have time id go out to Stefano Lubiana for some of Australia's best wines, and probably check out MONA (everyone raves about it) and maybe Port Arthur, which is supposed to be quite good, despite the obvious creepiness it must have about it.

One of the more 'romantic' places ive stayed was in Tassie at a place called Piermont http://www.piermont.com.au/display.asp?entityid=1451

they are some high end stone cottages built in the dunes on the edge of the beach. theres a little town nearby, but its the kind of place youd just hang in the cottage i suppose. its halfway between hobart and Launceston, so a nice little road trip, and its right by Freycinet so theres some cool little hikes and things to do, plus a few wineries.  it was a while ago, but i really though this place was perfect.
