@PlayDraperAlreadyFFS @GRR @theDJR and others …

Wife & I have unfinished business in Peru after food poisoning in Cusco stopped us doing the Inca Trail pre kids. Thinking of doing something like this over 4 weeks in June / July -

Santiago.
Connect to San Pedro de Atacama for desert & geysers (have done this before, but happy to repeat).
4WD tour from Sam Pedro through SW Bolivia (Uyuni salt flats, lakes, volcanoes) to La Paz.
Copacabana for Titicaca.
Train to Cusco.
A hike to Machu Picchu.
Fly home via somewhere.

Any thoughts? Too much for 4 weeks? Anyone been through SW Bolivia? Can you fly direct Cusco - Santiago these days or is Lima unavailable?

I only got here yesterday so i’m not going to be able to answer a lot of that but that itinerary looks unreal. If you plan it carefully you can get all that done, flights within that region are very regular and surprisingly affordable. I have looked into flights from Cusco to Santiago and they’re about $250 aud but all seem to transfer through Lima. You can also get domestic flights all around Peru for as low as $50/60 if you don’t have checked baggage.

The below seems to roughly match what you’re describing (plus at least a bit more in the jungle), and is 25 days.

We did something similar in Peru some years ago. Really worth the effort, but make sure you are fit before you go as we found it to be very physically tough.

Sounds great. Not sure if it’s feasible or if you’re interested but we stopped at Easter Island on the way. Used to be able to cobble together a reasonably priced round ticket following your basic itinerary which included Easter Island via Tahiti. Think the flights to Easter Island went to and from every three days but that’s a while ago.

Any idea when these sales come around and how do you get on the mailing list to get notified?

If time permits Montparnasse is from memory a lovely part of Paris to spend an evening too … known for its boulevards, crepes and cidre. A bit of yesteryear France.

It’s a great city is Paris … you’ll love it.

They have sales every few months. Just need to go to their website and join up to their frequent flyer program and they will send out advanced sales notice.
As I mentioned yesterday Japan Airlines often have PE under $4k and yes it often includes a overnight layover in Tokyo but one thing that Japan Airlines do that others don’t is offer lounge access in Australia and Japan. Their product is rated highly aswell if it’s PE you are interested in

This is for domestic, right? If you need 3 hours check-in international then four hours would leave only 1 hour of buffer. That enough?

Pere Lachaise cemetery for A list celebrity tombstones. Jim Morrison is there.
Some moved from Montparnasse cemetery to be with the more rich and famous.

Perhaps some have been moved, but when I was there in 1995 it was also the resting place of Edith Piaf, Oscar Wilde and several classical composers.

Depends on the airline and airport. Obviously for International then staying a night is my preference if connecting from one airline to another but with online checkin and bag drops you can still make it comfortably.
If your flight is massively delayed it won’t really matter anyway

The ‘staying the night’ option means a night in LA. Pass.

The other option is a 14 hour layover at the LA airport. Also pass.

Yeah it’s not for everyone but I’d rather stay the night than risk a transit with some airlines. If you miss a connecting flight then that’s where the fun starts and you need to be prepared to hand over more cash or hold on the phone for 2 days to a Manila call centre
99% of flights are fine, it’s the 1% that you hear about though

I think it was more the wannabes that moved from Montparnasse to Lachaise.
Proudhon ( property is theft) is buried at Lachaise. .
The pyramid for Wilde is connected to Ada Leverson , the Sphinx, his friend who stood by him.

Surely 4 hours and 20 minutes between arrival and departures for international flights on different bookings is enough, isn’t it? Is international check-in 2 or 3 hours?

99% of the time it’s fine. You would need a fair delay of your first flight not to make it

Cool. For this to go wrong there’s gotta be not only a hold up, but a significant one.

Naturally, if it all goes to s**t I’ll be jumping on blitz from LAX and blaming you.
