Wjho you flying with and from where/to
Lima to LA with Copa Air.
LA to Melb with Qantas.
Cant wait to get out of here and to mexico on boxing day. This weather is sh!te!
You should be fine but you do have the added niggle of an extra leg thrown in there as you are going Lima to Panama to LA.
As always with flights the more legs you throw in the more chance of failure but I suspect you will be just fine
Trouble is that the direct flights land either too late or way too early.
You can never be certain but I think you will be fine
LA airport isnt that bad and 14 hours will fly. I had a 18 hour lay over in Sao Paulo and it flew by. Theres usually so much things you can do to keep occupied anyway
Made it to Melbourne this morning, have settled down into our short stay house.
I must say… this is not summer weather!!! Was hoping for better than windy, wet and cold
Cheer up. Could have been worse if you had landed in Sydney today.
So dipshits supporters have taken up protesting in most cities in Peru. Mostly in the centre so don’t even notice it if you avoid that area, however they’ve also taken protesting at Arequipa airport which is annoying because I fly there on Wednesday and have an airbnb booked and paid for a month.
@Aceman, good call to use Bangkok Air. Currently using their lounge in BKK while transferring Siem Reap-Chiang Mai. Old school in a good way.
Siem Reap seems to have grown ten times since last visit 20+ years ago. Tourist gold rush now bouncing back after Covid coma. Thought we would get in before the Chinese are unleashed again. Still busy, busy though. But there are always quiet spots away from the obvious places & obvious times - early morning hike up to the 1000 lingas in the river at Kbal Spean being a fave.
Great shots, Gnik. I love that sleeping one.
When we there in 2009-ish, some of the main roads in Siem Reap were still unsealed. Also, there was a vacant shopfront being fitted out, with a poster in the window declaring that it was “the future site of the first KFC in Cambodia”. I don’t recall seeing a McDonalds anywhere there either.
I’m sure things have changed somewhat since then.
I was in Phnom Penh a couple of years pre pandemic and there wasn’t a single Maccas in the whole of Cambodia so I doubt they have built any during the pandemic and Maccas just isn’t a big deal in SEA. On our recent trip through SEA you hardly see a Maccas but plenty of KFC and even Burger King
JAL and ANA are really great.
On a domestic for JAL from Kagoshima to Haneda, we all boarded, then de-boarded. Given it’s a small airport no english. WAlked up to find someone, who then found someone else to explain what was happening and what the delay was.
Answer with a huge smiling face “Plane and Engine broken. Fixing now. 3 Hours”.
Well at least i’m here to confirm they fixed the plane!
Peru has declared a national state of emergency, with airports in Arequipa and Cusco shut down due to protesters demanding an election. It’s more of an annoyance than anything, in Miraflores/Barranco at least life goes on as normal. I came here for Cusco and surrounding attractions which I effectively cannot access so If things do escalate I might just hop a flight to Buenos Aires and return at a later date. Never been. Any tips?
Just make sure your visa for Peru allows for re-entry.
No Visa required for Australians. They got rid of it some time ago. Australians get 3 months in Peru
Now driving the Mae Salong loop in the highlands of North Thailand close to the Burmese border. This area was settled by ex-Kuomintang soldiers escaping Mao, whose descendants live alongside the local hill-tribes. Opium was the major cash-crop in the 60s & 70s and Khun Sa was the dominant narco-warlord. He was the CIA’s most wanted for a while & had a private army of 20k until the Thai airforce bombed them out in the 80s. You can visit his derelict hide-out, which has become a shrine, complete with wax effigy & offerings of whiskey and cigars from the locals who still remember.
