That’s not a bad one though in business. Comfortable enough seats/bed. Late evening flight, some dinner and a few drinks, watch a movie or two and sleep for a couple of hours and you are in Paris first thing in the morning.

Perfect.

It’s my first trip to Europe for work and not as a backpacker…aside from being with work people, I’ll get at least full day to myself in:

  • Paris (thinking of just doing the hop on hop off bus)
  • Frankfurt
  • Malaga
  • weekend in Modena

In Paris, instead of the big tourist things for which Paris is famous, I’d revisit the Rodin museum instead of the Louvre .
For history of famous people, Pere Lachaise cemetery ( Jim Morrison and Oscar Wilde tombs the most spectacular); a meal at La Coupole for the ambience, the murals and Art Nouveau architecture; walking around the Marais for a distinctive difference in inner Paris burbs (old Jewish burb, with a Victor Hugo residence); a coffee or digestif at a Left Bank zinc bar, watching a different mix of Parisian society going about their business.

If you have a day in Malaga, try to get a day trip to Ronda…it’ll blow your mind. And Malaga has too many Poms.

There are plenty of decent videos of walks around Ronda

I think the Caminito del Rey is near there if you like dicey walks and there’s a cave setp not far east…Nerva?

Personally I’d go up to Montmartre. Moulin Rouge, Sacré Cœur, and further uphill.

Ain’t that the truth.
One of the Uncles has a vacation property at Benalmadena and we have stayed there several times and I’ve asked him why you would have a holiday home in a place where there are more Poms than where you normally live. He laughs and says that the weather is perfect every day of the year so he can put up with the Poms

Montmartre plays up to the Hollywood version of Paris and Parisians, a lot of it now fake.
And personally, I loathe the OTT wedding cake architecture of Sacre Coeur.

Wow…Sacre Couer is my favourite site in Paris…each to his/her own I suppose

I’d only walked down Rue de Pigalle about noon and got propositioned about 50 times. Never went higher than Sacré Cœur and I found that video interesting, never having been there.

I wouldn’t mind some Leopard time but Yala NP sounds like Hoddle St during rush hour these days. Leopards also in Wilpattu NP but apparently the roads are brutal and I don’t want a repeat of the back spasms I enjoyed from the lanchas on Lago Atitlan. Seen a lot of Asian elephants so wouldn’t go too far out of the way for them. Plus I’ve read you see quite a few critters (including elephants) outside the NPs. Would we be missing something essential if we skipped a safari?

Propositioned as in prostitutes?

Where are you guys sending me to?

It’s also where someone tried to grab my watch off my wrist as I exited the subway.

Best of luck.

Paris’ equivalent of Kings Cross, the Reeperbarn, or the west side of Las Ramblas in Barcelona.

Seedy, but reasonably tame…

Prostitutes, strippers, whatever!

Just go up the steps and before entering the church, go round the side.

Main thing I got from watching those videos is that in a couple of weeks, I am likely to be the worst dressed person in Europe. Everyone looked so snappy!

The only thing that’s seedy in kings cross these days are the sourdough buns at a bougie bakery.

@Aceman - Hoping for some advice. My flight this afternoon from ABX to SYD QF2208 is running late and I’m looking at a 25 min connection time on arrival (which may well involve a bus transfer) to my connecting flight QF904 to MCY. I’m thinking that this will be a very tight transfer or maybe even miss it?? Do you have any advice?

You will almost certainly miss your flight and possibly be stuck in Sydney overnight. If on one PNR they will have to accomodate you, rebook etc but you could try being proactive and perhaps get them to put you on the Rex flight out of ABX. You will need to change terminals at SYD but you should at least have time to do it. I’m surprised Qantas haven’t let you know yet but in any case get on to them ASAP

Too late now for the Rex flight. Am 30 min from the airport.
If I contact them now will they sort out accommodation?

They should sort that out for you but there even could be a small chance they hold your Sydney flight for a few minutes to allow a late connect. It’s at a busy part of the day so your SYD-MCY flight will probably be delayed anyway. Definitely contact them straight away though
