Sliding and potentially taking the legs can also be penalised in the game.
Weeds meets him at the ball, the opponent did something he couldn’t react to.
3 weeks is harsh at best.

This is the thing, he could have done something had he not chosen to bump the player. He could have tried to avoid contact or equally get low and contest the ball.
The player contesting the ball more strongly will always be rewarded in these circumstances (except if youre 2mp of course).

Yes because like any footballer with brain would assume his opponent would stand up and not slide in
again, you bump, you wear the consequences. I am entirely comfortable with that.
Man, you must be bored tonight.
sure.
It will be an entirely consistent decision assuming the sliding player plays for Essendon.
I will remember this next time I see you criticise Davey for running away from the ball (or his opponent)
It’s all the same crap.
I bet you have never played a game of footy in your life. Of course, you are going to brace yourself for contact when you see someone running directly at you. It’s not a bump, it’s a brace. FFS, I get really annoyed that people like you and the ■■■■■■■■■ at the tribunal don’t understand that decisions are made at a split second and that it’s human behaviour to try protect yourself when you suddenly see someone oncoming.
That suspension is possibly the worst suspension I have ever seen. I don’t care that it was only Weideman, it was pathetic.
He didn’t even have time to brace. If you stop the footage the split second before impact you can clearly see Weids arm is straight by his side still in the running action. He does not tuck in his arm up as he would if he in any way was “lining him up”. He also doesn’t deviate at all from his line so again the suggestion he lined him up is braindead.
Even if he did brace himself, could you blame him?
Its akin to suspending the tackler when the player ducks his head to draw high contact. Yes technically there was a strike to the head but the player who ducked caused the contact to be high. The other notion from Alex that the Carlton player wss was contesting the ball more strongly which again highlights his ignorance of the game. Keeping your feet is how you should contest the ball or bend down to pick it up. As I pointed out earlier, that is my concern with this decision. I don’t want kids taught or learning by what the see, that sliding into contests is the correct technique.
So in effect, we have the Carlton player sliding in to get the ball and Weideman standing upright with a slight lean towards the oncoming player, and not bending down to pick it up.
Head contact from a bump but would have reduced his penalty to 2 weeks due to the slide by Lemmey.
I’d agree with that I’d he didn’t veer towards the carlton player.
What this also shows you is the AFL/VFL and the tribunal system is so disconnected to the commentators and supporters view. The commentary on the TV after the incident was all about how Lemmy had put himself into danger by sliding in not Weideman lining him up. There is no question Weideman at the last couple of second looks at Lemmy and has to brace for below the knee contact - he protects himself other his legs get taken pout possible and he does a knee. How any tribunal can give this 3 weeks is really beyond belief and you can only think none of those sitting on it have played football.
Only a few years ago if you recall when Hurley got cleaned up by Hannebery it wasn’t even a free and everyone blamed Hurley for not picking up the ball the correct way. Can’t believe now we are saying the player has a duty of care because the other player is so reckless that he could cause you injury and as a result of that you collect him high and you can get 3 weeks.
Lay off the WEEEEEED Alex.
You mean at the point that he was getting his legs take out by the opposition player?
I dunno. Maybe, maybe earlier depending on which frame you decide to freeze it at. I’m comfortable to agree to disagree.
