Started watching Better Call Saul again. My goodness, I forgot how good this show is.

I just finished rewatching Breaking Bad and now moving on to Better Call Saul.

BB was my favorite non sci-fi series but BCS was excellent.

My wife had resisted all entreaties to watch any Breaking Bad or spinoffs until recently. We ended up binging all of them over a couple of months. Simply brilliant writing and performances.

Mrs Wim rankings.

  1. USS Callister
  2. Beta Noire
  3. Common People
  4. Hotel Reverie
  5. Eulogy
  6. Plaything

Mrs Wim is a BM noob, hasn’t seen any other episodes.
However, we recently watched/played Bandersnatch, so it nice to have that background for Plaything.
And once we saw the USS was a sequel, we went back and watched the original episode (for the second time, myself).
I highly recommend watching them back to back, if it’s not too late for anyone.

Interesting that she didn’t like Eulogy. I’ve found it to be the most divisive episode of the new seasons. A lot of rusted on BM fans really didn’t like that one for whatever reason.

The first USS Callister episode was fun. It felt like a love letter to Star Trek, but in a BM skin. I was hoping the sequel would have leaned into the campiness of old Star Trek a little bit more, but it was a very fitting end.

I liked Eulogy. Obviously the performance is very good.
I wouldn’t really be surprised if it gets to men more than women.

My opinion doesn’t count, because my favourite episode was Hotel Reverie. Everything I’ve seen written about that episode hasn’t been very nice.

I did find it interesting that this series seems to have been overall less…cruel? Less depressing?

Common People seemed to be the most old school BM episode, and even that…there was a tenderness to it.

Edit: and I’ve never laughed so hard or so often in a BM episode as I did in USSC2.
They really brought out the CEO character and his lines were hilarious.

There was some good acting but having watched Euphoria I can’t quite suspend my disbelief on Jacob Elordi. And the casting of Hinds just seemed a very odd decision. He does a good job of playing an absolute drop punt but the accent… The accent just isn’t right, doesn’t match up with his younger self and is… Wrong.

I also can’t stand Simon Baker.

Conflicted.

Season 1 of “The Eternaut” completed. Interesting. Slow moving. 6/10

Derry Girls. Masterful at stopping your chuckle half way through to just about bring a tear to your eye. Zingers galore, nice easy watch with regular laughs. 8/10

Your Friends and Neighbours. John Ham playing a down on his luck stockbroker type guy who needs money so starts burgling his friends. Quite American but quite amusing and has Olivia Munn, who is to Femininity what James Hird was to football. Light brain massage, 6/10.

Love Derry Girls.

The James character provided consistent value throughout. Likewise the priest with the hair.

And Tommy Tiernan is a comedy genius.

Oh man, I got excited for a sec, I thought Derry Girls had returned.

I agree with this take. There was a period of BM where the writers were seemingly obsessed with the concept of an eternally trapped consciousness, such as in Black Museum or the first USS Callister episode. It seemed like Hotel Reverie was going to head down that same path. It’s ending was also less intense, which I did find somewhat refreshing.

Common People was particularly depressing because of that tenderness you referred to. It was a story of a man who was doing whatever it took to keep his wife alive, which gave it an angle of relatability, and he was determined to do these things no matter how humiliating, degrading, disgusting or otherwise undignified, or the external consequences these activities would have on him.

No mention for Uncle Colm? His scene with Liam Neeson was a classic.

I think James is in the Death in Paradise spin-off, Clare is in Bridgerton and Erin was in that awful version of the Decameron, still with the Derry accent.

Agreed. The Colm character was used to perfection.

My partner hated that character because whenever I have an urge to annoy her I tell rambling stories that go nowhere much in the same manner.

It’s particularly effective while driving when she cannot move to another area

Handmaid’s tale has come to an end. What a journey. The longer the series went on the more depressing it was with the parallels of what is happening in the world.

A good ending. It could never be the fairytale ending and stayed true to the book.

Ok so ep 10 is the finale, I never read the books and found the final episode a little underwhelming until I read @Heffsgirl post and now think yep it could never be that fairytale ending.
Cheers

The Testaments is next series and works to wrap up the story.
