TV show thread (2022-?)

Not the one with Gerard Kennedy as Kragg, the Soviet asassin?

Apple tv might have another decent watch with the last frontier

Nearly finished my third run-through of Mr Robot.

I’d say it’s a candidate for my best ever.

But then so are about 5 other shows…

I’m keen to watch Beeaking Bad again but it appears it only available to rent in Australia on Apple TV - it’s not on any of the streaming services.

I haven’t watched but it’s on my list.

Bump everything else for it.

Acting, plot, cinematography… All perfect.

Twists and turns without ever being soapy.

In fact, I’ve just talked myself in to declaring it my #1.

It would be ironic if you didn’t obtain it by less than legal methods.

Have you got Netflix and a VPN?

I think it’s on Stan.

We had a thread for it on here, there was only like 3 of us in there.

It’s absolutely in my top 5. The ending just bumps it down a little from being in the conversation for my number 1.

But goddam I love that show.

Ah, yes. I remember that thread. I believe it was the reason I started watching first time around.

I’m up to the second last episode so I will be at that point either tonight or tomorrow.

Thankfully I’ve forgotten a fair bit since the last run-through which was probably a decade ago, but I do recall the ending being a little unsatisfactory.

What is it with the strongest shows kinda whiffing it on the finale?

Edit: do not click this link if you’re going to watch the show. Spoilers abound.

In fact, there were five of us or so, some absolute luminaries mentioned here…

It’s the hardest part of a story - any story - to get right.

It’s why you’ll see indie / first time screenwriters make films, but you’ll never see one get a TV show made. No studio is gonna trust them to be able to keep it going and then wrap it up in a satisfactory fashion.

BB and BCS nailed it. The Wire stumbled ever so slightly at the end. GOT fell in the biggest heap of all time.

Yeah the wire could have done better, but I’m not sure there’s a good way to end a show about an endless situation. I’m still not sure if McNulty had a redemption arc or not. But anyway, the addition of ā€œsheeeeeeeiiiiitā€ to the lexicon makes it too five alone, but the scene early in season one where they’re trying to get the desk through the doorway is all time.

And GOT: Fark those guys. As one of those annoying ā€œI read the books before the show existedā€ ā– ā– ā– ā– ā– , I am privately seething that G R. R. R. R. R Martin chose to devote time to that abomination instead of doing his Farking job.

I think he devoted his time to eating

well that was kinda the whole point

any kind of sad or happy ending would fly in the face of the entire run

One of the best finales I ever saw was Homeland.

The show itself was ā€˜uneven’ to put it nicely. But goddam did they slam dunk the ending.

It was more the newspaper guy that dragged that final season down a notch.

But how they rounded out the remaining major characters was pretty solid.

And, in a way, the city of Baltimore is indeed the main character.
