just finisged top boy. absolutely unreal. the second version of this show was just incredible. so many layers so much intensity. it’s as good as any crime drama I’ve ever seen.

Thanks for the heads up - will check out.

I think the first series labelled top boy summerhouse . that’s the older one. I reckon the second series called just top boy is a marked upscale of production quality. it’s so good.
I love their lingo , and the music peppered through is just fantastic at creating the right vibe

Brilliant series. Very grim so doubt it’s to everyone’s taste. Doubt also the images of Dublin are tourist board approved.

S2 aired earlier this year O/S so hopefully SBS schedule it here soon.

Wasn’t aware of this one … had to look it up.

4 seasons apparently. 1 & 2 from 2011-13 (Channel 4), 3 & 4 from 2019 when recommissioned by Netflix. 1 & 2 picked up by Netflix with Summerhouse attached to the name (as you said). According to what I read an S5 is upcoming on Netflix later this year.

Not sure how I’ll access it … don’t currently have Netflix.

it’s great. well worth it. can’t wait for the new season now. I reckon the non Hollywood series and movies will get a good look now too with all these delays from the current strikes in hollywood

In full agreement. Only finished ep 1 under sufferance.

What was MD thinking … usually OK with quirky but this was beyond stupid. Massive fail (a shame as I wanted to like it).

Any good recommendations? I feel like I’ve run out of things to watch.

Just realised that Mrs Maisel season 5, the final season, was broadcast a few months back, so just started on it. First two eps had the same razor sharp dialogue as ever, but with a new narrative style woven in for this season.

Rachel Brosnahan is so beguiling I could probably watch the show forever.

Rachel Brosnahan got a bit part in the first episode of House of Cards, playing a prostitute, so minor was her part that she was named Rachel, her own name. She impressed the show runners so much that she ended up playing the role for two seasons until they finally murdered her.

Then she got a role as the New York wife of the scientist played by Sydney-raised Ashley Zuckerman in Manhattan, where she struggled to adapt to living in Los Alamos.

Then the role as Midge Maisel which has made her famous.

I’m surprised the Jewish film community hasn’t cracked the sads about an Irish-American actor playing Jewish parts.

Her aunt is Kate Spade, the handbag designer, who suicided a few years ago. Spade was her married name.

We just watched Arnie in first series of FUBAR on Netflix

Right amount of death and carnage, weak scripts, but OK watching, and Arnie at 76 is still good at comedy and the one-liners.

Also watched Mystery Road and it is also watchable, not stunning but has its moments. Season 1 with Judy Davis is the best, she is such a great actor, and made an acceptable cop.

Yep, I knew her from House Of Cards when I first found out about Maisel.

I wasn’t aware of the Kate Spade connection though.

no.
