US politics - cooked

As I said, I disagree with the view. But I don’t think that invalidates opposing views. It’s too easy to write off everything the Republicans say as unreasonable (rather than just different) because so much of what they argue for is downright bonkers.

That’s how all them paedophile democrats get their supply of children, dontchaknow?

I’d be interested in watching more of that.

Love an insight into this batshit crazy. Only chance I get is via workplace HR when people won’t get vaxxed, and apparently you have to be professional.

If you look at US Army in Afghanistan, they were using field comms gear from Vietnam Wars days and their soldiers had inferior weapons and gear to ADF and Forces from Europe. My Son said, when regular US Army troops were replaced by National Guard outfits, the weekend soldiers were all much better equipped as they purchase their own gear.

So maybe planes and drones are state of the art, but no much else.

Channel 5 with Andrew Callaghan

Some of the best impartial reporting and insight into the US’ underbelly.

His early stuff (all gas no breaks) was covering a lot of weird but sort of humorous incidents like flat earth cons, burning man etc - but has since evolved into much more in depth coverage of stuff like Jan 6 and BLM

Well yeah, the cosplaying Proud Boy farkwits buy up all the good stuff. Just in case they, ya know, wanna try and overturn a fair election.

Not sure that Proud Boy types are National Guard members. They are very anti Government and the National Guard cowboys always seemed passionate Yanks to me.

Except for the Director who can the manage things like this:

Until you realise that the US military industrial complex will need to replace all the stuff hey are sending to the Ukraine. Buy your Raytheon, Boeing and Lockheend Martin, Thales and BAE Systems shares now.

I thought Thales was French ( part State owned)
And BAE British?
One of the Trump gripes was that European NATO partners needed to up their defence expenditure to a certain percentage of their budgets .This appears to have been met to some extent, accelerated by the Ukraine War.

BAE are British and listed on the London stock exchange, but a major supplier to the US (sixth largest supplier according to Wiki).

Thales are indeed French owned and listed, but about half their revenue comes from outside of France - Australia being a significant component of that. They are a major supplier of propellant and energetics (the stuff that goes bang) in munitions, and export some of this from Australia to the US. They supply plenty of components to the US.

Germany has hugely increased Defence budgets this year, although a big part of that will just be catching up maintenance backlogs. Japan have also announced doubling their Defence budget to 2% of GDP. And Poland have (unsurprisingly) gone on a major spending spree.

Where does Rheinmetal fit? It has a plant at Redbank, which Queensland is pumping up as export potential.

Rhienmetall ist deutsch.

Not sure they get a look-in with the Americans, but are a major western supplier of armoured vehicles.

Hanwa down in Geelong is Korean.

Koreans have signed a contract to sell tanks to Poland.

Chip’s not happy about the Ukrainian funding.

Believing there are better ways to spend the money is still a valid proposition.

He really has a bad chip on his shoulder.
