Ah yes, a verdict that says “guilty” and “not really that guilty” at the same time. Typical.
So it’s not proven the Dominion machines didn’t flip the votes…
Yep, Murdoch a loyal proponent of the AFL playbook for running a corrupt organisation. Lie and bluster and witch-hunt all you like, use every scrap of your power and prominence and that of your organisation to ruthlessly heavy anyone who even looks vaguely like standing up to you, but never, ever, EVER testify under oath in a courtroom, no matter how much money it costs.
Checking Dominion revenue, according to one site, its annual revenue is $17.5 million.
It’s a private equity company.
There should be a fair amount of the
$787.5 million to be disbursed to the shareholders after legal costs .
Someone said it’s a victory for capitalism.
A shame Fox didn’t launch a takeover bid for them ( via o nominee of course) when there was a sniff of the possibility of a suit
But, but, Hunters Laptop
They are a company intending to grow globally and sell bulk equipment. The reputation damage risks destroying that future growth. $700m for a decade of lost sales is a valid damages estimate.
maybe but does not include a punitive component that US allows for
The really interesting part will be the response from shareholders
In the Dominion vs Fox case, does the court’s summary judgement constitute any kind of legal precedent under Delaware statute, or US law generally against lying ?
If not, it would seem that freedom of speech remains freedom to lie and it is up to individuals to claim a tort and that the defendant acted with malice pretty much as before.
Hopefully though it will encourage individuals to go for the Fox jugular by filing suit, and especially people like Sydney Powell and Rudy Giuliani who were essentially making things up, or repeating things other people were making up.
I reckon Fox should have been given some kind of discount if they changed their name to Fox Entertainment. They just give their subscribers what they want to hear. That’s actually entertainment, right?
So, what about the other voting machine company Smartmatic? What does Fox plan to do about that case?
Probably will have to settle for about the same, but the claim is 2.5Bn in that case.
Interested what fox investors will do. It’s a listed company is it not?
Good to see Fox can now get back to their high level of trustworthy journalism. The guy did snigger at that.
It’s listed, but to be honest, I think most of the shareholders have long since priced the possibility of massive financial penalties into their estimates of the stock’s value. And it’s not like Murdoch can be turfed out by a shareholders vote, the stock is massively gerrymandered so that a clear majority of voting rights is concentrated in the hands of the Murdoch family, despite them not owning an actual majority of the company.
I’m actually disappointed that this didn’t go to trial. Fox’s internal documents and communications were both baffling and damning, and the additional public scrutiny would have been very valuable.
The recent Behind the Bastards episodes on Fox News are highly recommended listening. It lays bare their cognizant duplicity.
They will love it. They got seven hundred million bucks worth of advertising for their base, and saved billions in fines and court costs, plus Sky gets to carry on as normal. What’s not to like?
Fox has cash reserves of approx US$4billion.
Its share price didn’t even move after the settlement announcement.
