US politics - fried (part 5)

I’m pretty sure Carroll’s lawyers asked for that amount and the jury agreed.

Richard Butler acknowledged informal information exchanges between UNSCOM and national intelligence agencies when he was the Chief Arms Inspector in Iraq under a UNSC mandate , although not to a formalised role claimed by Scott Ritter.
There was some frustration at the lack of cooperation by the Saddam regime, but IIRC there was no suspicion of WMD.

On the question of punitive damages no set amount was requested, but the jury was asked to consider an amount that was enough to make Trump stop harassing her. Given his wealth and disposition that number was deemed to be high.

Second time in a week R Butler has been mentioned on Blitz…

I remember the protests.

You have to give it to the French and Germans who had no interest in joining the Coalition as they knew full well it was based on bullshit. I suppose from the Aussie point of view, it was more important to support a protector than adhere to facts.

I remember at the time Simon Crean being the Labor leader, and copping flak for saying we shouldn’t be going to Iraq.

Howard (not a fan at all) was a very cunning opportunist.

We went to Iraq in 2003, and then in 2005, a Free Trade Agreement between the US and Australia was created along with a visa specifically for Australian professionals. These are both still intact today.

The war was just business for Howard.

Thats why Howard should have been held more accountable for the the Children Overboard debacle. Sheer anti muslim rhetoric. Worked a treat on the electorate at the time.

Her voice always turned me on. Not going to lie.

Howard was a CU in the NT. As a member of HMAS Adelaide’s crew the day that happened, I will never forgive him for the damage he did.

This is why Trump won’t win.

If he doesn’t want to appeal it he has to pay the entire sum.
His cult will pay either way. So what is better for him politically, given it will cost him nothing?
Fight it and be seen as a fighter, or pay it to be seen as a victim.

…also heard that E Jean Carrolls’ lawyers will probably start placing liens on Trump assets in order to secure the payout.
This sounds reasonable, but this news was from “twitter” .
