Yes and passport is optional. So from that it does appear that you don’t need any proof of identity.
Who is claiming the app is making asylum decisions?
Google US procedures for refugee status.
You might also want to google unhcr in your search for detail, begin with the legal definition of refugee.
Incorrect. If you do not have a passport you have to provide biographical details. As previously posted the app then checks against various data holdings.
You’re the one talking about asylum seekers and this app.
I never said the app makes decisions on who is granted asylum
Biographical information being your name?
Date of birth, place of birth, family details etc
Why are you so interested in this app. Many countries require foreigners to provide information for entry using an app or web based service.
Your first post made numerous references to information provided to the app and asylum claims.
And never said the app makes decisions on who is granted asylum
So not proof of identity. Im not even sure that it requires you to provide date of birth, place of birth or family details like you say. You can just click unknown or I don’t have one for some of those boxes. How are they going to know your lieing about it when you have no passport or other identity documents?
What do you think the appointment is for? It’s a scheduling app. It’s not granting you entry. You need a valid visa and passport or border crossing card or other eligible travel document to enter.
At the appointment do you think they are going to let people in without valid id. There are various acceptable travel documents, not just a passport.
Facial recognition is used for the selfie, that is a form of verification. As is proving biographical details.
Instead of the minutiae of detail being sought, why not just compare the systems put in place by the most recent Republican and Democrat President ?
I may be wrong, but I’m getting the impression that a certain poster wants to avoid that, let alone the impact of migration on US society.
I really want to believe that you are making good faith comments. But just read your own quote above. Tell me if this makes it seem like you’re asking genuine questions or insinuating right wing talking points that might have come from any number of random sources.
No one is being allowed to come in with flimsy excuses then just randomly flown to whichever state they prefer to go to. That is not the case. Else, Hawaii would be number 1.
No one has been given amazing food, housing, shelter indefinitely. I’ve been to New York City five times in the last 12 months and the situation there is insane with migrants (mostly from Venezuela), crammed into small hotel rooms, multiple families trying to reside together. These migrants didn’t choose NYC. They were dumped there by the Republican governors of States like Texas and Florida to stick it to a large Democrat city as punishment for “Biden’s open border policies”.
Finally, and I will remove you from my next point.
Let’s be honest. If these migrants were English speaking white folks, none of this would make news. For example, white South African farmers coming across an ocean. Or English backpackers overstaying their visas.
The US immigration system is completely broken. We need to have strong borders AND a system that doesn’t fail the vulnerable while incentivizing the greedy.
I hope so but I’m struggling to find anything that says this explicitly or any real details at all about what happens during the appointment and screening process before being allowed entry to the USA. Do you have a source?
Melania has.
come on man
this is getting pretty tired
This whole thing started with Vance saying the Haitian refugees in Springfield were only legal because of the app. The app only gives you an appointment to claim asylum, it doesn’t grant asylum and it doesn’t provide any shortcuts. All it does is stop the border checkpoints from getting overwhelmed on a daily basis with asylum seekers that they would turn away due to lack of capacity.
It’s a nothing burger.
Edit: and to be clear, the US is required by international law to provide refugee status to anyone who is fleeing a threat to their life. If you have a problem with anything it would be the screening process once an appointment has been made, to validate that the asylum claim is real. That’s where you should do your research. I would expect that the vast majority of asylum seekers who are granted entry are later found to be valid once all the checks are made.

Im asking genuine questions.

What number is Hawaii? It does seem that the people applying for asylum do get to pick a state they want to go to. How often that request is granted is not clear to me.

No one has been given amazing food, housing, shelter indefinitely. I’ve been to New York City five times in the last 12 months and the situation there is insane with migrants (mostly from Venezuela), crammed into small hotel rooms, multiple families trying to reside together.
They do seem to be given shelter, food and money though. That same shelter, food and money could have gone to homeless Americans so regardless of the quality I think it’s worth some thought.

If these migrants were English speaking white folks, none of this would make news. For example, white South African farmers coming across an ocean. Or English backpackers overstaying their visas.
I don’t see how them being English or South African would change the situation.
And somebody’s hungry for the big whopper. Hilarious ‘convo’ in this thread earlier about what constitutes trolling. Blitz has the dumbest, most transparent trolls of all time. They’re allowed because it’s occasionally fun and we’re essington fans with special needs.
