The split in the Dems as it moves to the left is interesting, to say the least. It may help to focus voters on big issue reforms, however, such as health care, and corporate/tech taxation.
The worry is that Repubs will not swing over, as they are inherently conservative, and bigoted.
Independents? I am guessing this is the group that the Dems need to shift. I don’t know enough about them to know if they will shift to a more democratic socialist model.
Turnout will be very important - as usual.

Seems to me that the centre or current establishment Dems think that moving left will make them unelectable. It’s surprisingly still too easy to call someone a commie and have the charge stick in the U.S. One of the referrendums in the coming mid terms will be about the electability of “sociallist” dems.
They should just be focused on beating Trump in Nov. I feel they have swung too far left. That’s the next step.
Being this far left makes it harder for rebs to flip over and easier for Trump to target them.

Trump Drops Key Claim in $10B Defamation Suit Against BBC to Avoid Giving Up Financial Records
President Donald Trump abandoned a key claim in his $10 billion defamation lawsuit against the BBC to keep the president from having to disclose financial records tied to his business empire as part of the legal fight.
Trump filed the lawsuit in December, alleging the BBC defamed him through a Panorama documentary linked to its coverage of his January 6, 2021, speech before the Capitol attack.
An emergency motion filed Thursday by Trump’s legal team withdrew allegations that the broadcaster’s reporting damaged the president’s businesses and brand, instead narrowing the case to claims of personal harm.
“The plaintiff no longer intends to pursue a damages theory premised on injury to the plaintiff’s brands and businesses,” Trump’s lawyers wrote. “It is simply the reputational injury to the president, full stop.”
Despite the change, the president is still seeking $10 billion in damages from the broadcaster.
The shift came after a judge ordered Trump to produce financial records because he had previously argued the BBC’s reporting caused economic damage to his commercial interests.
His legal team had argued the disclosure order was “shockingly broad” and warned compliance would cause “irreparable harm” to the trust overseeing Trump’s business assets. They also accused the BBC in earlier filings of attempting to wrongly exploit this litigation for its own political benefit.
Thursday’s revised complaint prompted a Miami judge to temporarily pause the order requiring Trump to hand over financial information relating to the Donald J. Trump Revocable Trust, which holds the president’s business interests and is managed by his son, Donald Trump Jr.
The BBC has consistently argued that Trump’s financial records were relevant because he alleged the broadcaster’s reporting harmed his commercial interests.
In response to the withdrawal of the allegations, the broadcaster’s lawyers questioned how Trump could still justify the scale of the damages sought.
“Claiming $10 billion in harm while purporting to disclaim damage to Plaintiff’s business and professional interests renders it all the more implausible that Plaintiff will ever be able to show such damages,” the BBC’s lawyers wrote in a court filing.

What does “too far left” actually mean? Which policies?
No one is proposing abolishing all private property. Even for America, the things being proposed echo things already in existence - socialised welfare and service systems.
In any case, the electoral data so far suggest these “far left” policies are very popular with voters. Which you’d expect when these “far left” policies are use-government-spending-to-make-life-easier-for-people-rather-than-propping-up-corporations.

I think people who lost elections to Donald Farking Trump should probably sit out any discussions about “electability”.
If you consistently get the most donations and dominate most of the institutional and financial resources your party gets, but you still have trouble getting large portions of your own party to vote for you, then I think that’s on you. These people love to blame voters.
Nobody really knows who can or can’t win a general election. Trump should have proven that multiple times over.

They’re not “far left” ideas by any means. The only way they come close to being “far left” is when you compare them to out and out fascism.
The majority of the American people just want a social safety net and health care not tied to insurance or employment.
They don’t want data centres, they don’t want abortion bans, they don’t give a fark about a few trans athletes, and they really don’t want masked thugs kidnapping children. Oh, and they’d like to see pedophiles put in jail.
The government and complicit media has somehow sold the US public on these as “far left” ideas. The sad thing is it seems to have been working and only now people are just starting to figure that out.
