An Iranian assassination threat against President Donald Trump prompted an extraordinary operation last month in which he flew secretly from Turkey on an alternate military aircraft while the White House said he was aboard Air Force One, The Washington Post has learned.
The clandestine mission, which has not been reported previously, was carried out unbeknownst to journalists and some White House staff members who believed they were on the same plane as the president, according to material reviewed by The Post, a U.S. official familiar with the operation and another person with knowledge of the president’s travel. These people spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk about the matter.
The administration has claimed that Trump departed Turkey on July 8 on the former Air Force One. Trump announced on social media that he would use the “former Air Force One” rather than the plane that flew him there, a newer Boeing 747-8 gifted to the United States by Qatar. The security of the Qatar-provided aircraft has been called into question, and Trump said last month after the trip that it would undergo additional upgrades.
In Ankara, Trump boarded the old Air Force One jumbo jet in view of television cameras. He was secretly shuttled minutes later to a smaller plane — an Air Force C-32A — via an airport catering truck typically used to load meals and other supplies preflight, according to the U.S. official and corroborating material reviewed by The Post. “The new Air Force One is a state-of-the-art aircraft that has been fitted with high-level security protocols that ensure the safety of the President and his staff,” Cheung’s statement said. “As the President has said recently, there are many enemies of America who have their sights on him, and we use every tool at our disposal to address those threats.”
A spokesman for the Pentagon referred questions to the White House. A Secret Service spokesman did not respond to a request for comment.
Publicly, the White House has repeated its account that the president left Turkey on the legacy blue-and-white Boeing 747 that served as Air Force One before Trump began using the former Qatari jet.
Imagine your boss thinking a plane was too dangerous to fly on, but then making you fly on it and not telling you he thought it was too risky and took another plane, what a guy!

To be honest, this is naive. The primary security is for the president, and hiding which plane he’s on seems perfectly reasonable.

The world is collapsing around trump, its a great thing, He’s predictably trapped in this war, The Iranians are toying with him and there is nothing he can do about it. Its bad for the world as such but if it gets rid of trump politically after the mid terms then that is a very good thing for the world

Works on many levels.
First just from an optics and Trump calling them Communist.
Secondly America is a capitalist country. So they put money ahead of everything.
So any policy that might hinder that might be considered by some as too left!
From universal healthcare to environmental policies.
Look up the DSA policies. Some socialist Dems are already starting to distance themselves from it.
Republicans were screeching that neoliberals like Clinton, Obama and Biden were all communists.
This rhetoric is beyond meaningless.

Not to the core voters.
Core Trump voters won’t be swayed by anything that happens, we’ve seen that.
In 2008, Obama campaigned on a very left-coded message which was wildly successful. In 2016, Bernie openly campaigned as a democratic socialist and almost took the primary from Hilary who was considered more or less the president in waiting at that point.
I’d argue strongly that
- voters are not concerned about going “too far to the left,” but rather they’re motivated by candidates who promise to shake up the failing status quo
- that the GOP have drifted so far to the right and the Democrats have tried chasing them there that the only way to shake up the status quo is to vote for left leaning candidates.

Fair enough. I disagree.
Voters that are sitting on the fence might not jump to the Dem side when they see Abdul. It’s a bigger jump.
But we will see in November and I hope you’re right. Michigan is a key seat and I don’t think the dems can take the senate without it.

Since the late 80s NY has been blue. So going further left isn’t an issue.
