US politics - the new orange wave (Part 7)

I don’t abuse people over their beliefs no matter how deluded they are. I reply with other commentary that questions their narrative or presents a differing viewpoint.

I am rewarded with personal attacks which is like water off my back.

This just reinforces my feeling that most of the right-leaning folks in this thread have no real interest or personal benefit in this result other than to just flex and feel a smug sense of superiority.

It could be argued that most Trump supporters are sheep themselves. If you think I’m wrong, just look at all the examples of people who only seem to have just discovered what they voted for and are now freaking out about it. There are a lot of them.

Frankly I think anyone in the US who still stans for either major political party are sheep. As I have said I find much of liberal social media to be nearly as insufferable and have had my biggest arguments in this very thread (in the past) with other left-wing posters.

I dont neccessarily think its a rejection of the party, democrats like labor, are /should be learning that your focal point matters, if the average person cannot resonate with who you are branding as PM/President, you’ve got no ■■■■■■■ hope. wouldn’t be surprised if in an alternative timeline joe biden going again would have it closer to a coin flip level

This is appalling behaviour if true:

I don’t believe it is totally, but what it does tell me is that the democratic party is lacking the self-awareness and humility to understand why people are turning away from it. It didn’t start on Tuesday; I turned away from it 8 years ago.

And the current political atmosphere is hostile to incumbents.

Nor should they control the narrative. No media outlets should.

Pollsters had it as too close to call. It’s not an exact science and some are better at it than others. It’s not in their interest to be bad at their job.

If there is a silver lining in this for me, is that it does contribute to further eroding the credibility of legacy media, who are hopeless.

Indeed. After many opportunities, none of them have been able to articulate who will benefit from Trump’s victory & how. They just fall back into culture war & conspiracy nonsense. It is really sad to see.

Forget about culture war distractions. Can any of the Trump-lovers explain how this is good -

    • An economic plan (tariffs & mass-deportation of low-cost labour) that will slow global growth, increase debt and push prices & inflation up, not least in Australia?
    • A political plan (Project 25) that removes administrative & judicial independence, weakens democracy & moves the US further towards autocracy / oligarchy / kleptocracy where power is placed in the hands of unqualified loyalists, family members and billionaire backers?
    • A diplomatic plan that will see Putin appeased, Ukraine carved up, NATO weakened and warmongers emboldened?
    • An environmental plan that … well the health of the environment (which our survival depends on) and the state of the climate are apparently irrelevant?

I mean, it’s all great if your ideal ‘democracy’ is Putin’s Russia. Otherwise it’s a horrorshow.

Inflation is being credited as the #1 reason.

What happens when the tariffs make it worse?

The economic plan (including mass-deportations) is suicide, so it is surely 90% lies to get elected. The real game was always point 2.

Point no 1: with the advancement and apparent low cost of robotics & AI, I can assure you blue collar labour availability will not be an issue in 3 or 4 years

you all know wimms gonna lose his ■■■■■■■ nut when interest rates dont go down

The ones that US private private companies with government contracts for prisons employ now ( also the same illegals who pay taxes on their wages).

Like Stephen Miller, and the protege appointees of Miller to Trump’s campaign committee and now government machinery, yes he is.

Nevermind the President Elect’s son, the President Elect was calling a woman a “■■■■■” at a rally just before the election, not to mention having been found liable for sexual assault by a jury.

It’s a very strange time to be living in when people who are calling themselves ‘right leaning’ are considering the Democrats ‘left’ when of course they are not. And that a certain logic leads them to believe it’s all cool to support what the MAGA GOP Christian Nationalist cult is. Which is not ‘right leaning’ at all, unless by ‘leaning’ you mean crushing with stupid and wilful abandon

They are certainly not conservative

The stupidity of this statement is amazing.

Low cost robotics and AI replacing blue collar labour???

What will then happen to those blue collar workers that voted for Trump?

They will be out of a job, in a country that is looking to do away with Social Security payments and other safety nets.

What will they then do to house and feed their families?
