US politics - the new orange wave (Part 7)

An interesting article posted previously, (sorry, can’t find it), by the Houston Chronicle I think.
It was about US-Mexico border communities turning very Republican. One was Eagle Pass.
The article noted that legal immigrants, who are at the bottom of the wage scale, decry illegals as they work cheap and push already low wages even lower.

This is part of the economy argument that Dems did not seem to win on. They may have talked about it, but I didn’t read about it.

I have heard similar arguments here, where migrants from the Middle East complain about asylum seekers getting it easy where they had to work for it.

Right or wrong, grievance politics is real and perhaps a lesson for all parties. Ignoring such appeals which are close to home can cost you votes. I can see some Sydney electorates moving towards Muslim candidates based on narrow grievances. Single issue if you like.

Bernie Sanders wanted a min. wage of $17 an hour in by 2028. Never got to the table.
Whilst the US remains low wage, this will continue. Taxing billionaires sounds nice, but raising min wages helps a hell of a lot of people.

Blitz leans left (which is fine btw) its hardly a right wing echo chamber.

There is some idiots sure (stop making us normal right leaners look bad please).

People have had their say and democracy has worked. Also to note that the Democrats, while salty about the result, aren’t trying to overthrow the election result or lead an insurrection.

Like a miracle calls that the election is rigged has disappeared.

And that was stupid.

Unfortunately the huge drop off in votes from Biden to Harris will only fuel that BS chat from 2020.

On that note. The first thing the dems need to do is find out why 12 million people didn’t move their vote from Biden to Harris. Trump is sitting almost bang on his 2020 number.

What did they do to lose 12 million votes

It was more than stupid. People died. People got terribly injured.

It was a fair and free election like this year. Anyone thinking it was anything else is an idiot.

What has happened to people’s comprehension skills?

I asked why Trump’s victory is good for democracy considering his absolute control of all levels of government and intent to move further towards an autocracy. I didn’t say his victory was undemocratic.

Jeezus it’s hard work in here some days.

Wow…that’s not even close as a comparison.

There have been so many stories of women dying due to the archaic abortion laws in many US States due to the lack of urgent medical care being provided by doctors who are scared of being sued.

“Your Body, My Choice” is being used to troll and attack women online.

Includes this little gem:

Fuentes hosted a livestream reacting to the results of the 2024 U.S. Presidential Election on Rumble [1] on November 5th. At one point during the stream, he paused on a scene showing two female Kamala Harris supporters and said:

TFW you’re totally not pressed. TFW we control your bodies. Hey ■■■■■, we control your bodies. Guess what, guys win again, okay. Men win again, yes. We control your bodies. Hi! I’m your Republican Congressman. It’s your body, my choice. And men win again. There will never ever be a female President. It’s over. Glass ceiling? It’s a ceiling made of f------ bricks."

I found this fairly fascinating. A little footage from the engine room. Kind of like an Essendon “behind the play”. Bottle of coke in hand, sausage rolls(?), tomato sauce and sliders on the table…

They’ll have a good laugh about it. “Hey, we really played this perfectly!”
