US politics - the new orange wave (Part 7)

Sorry Wanderlust, but just checked and the Orange Buffon has been using that song since 2016 at his rallies.

Yes, but democrats also sang it when he was finishing up his first term too!

But fair point, may be a Trump favourite.

You will find that America’s dropping of nuclear bombs was seen as morally culpable at that time. It has nothing to do with not standing up to today’s morals or beliefs. There is areason why no nuclear bombs have been dropped in 80 years.

Really. So can you answer why a nuclear bomb has not been used in the last eighty years of endless wars throughout the world? Flick a switch and you end most wars.

USA voted against the UN resolution condemning the Russian invasion of Ukraine

Even Iran didn’t do this (abstained)

93 votes supporting the EU and Ukraine amendments to the US draft, the amendments referring to Russia’s war of aggression and calling on Russia to withdraw its troops.
Belarus and North Korea were the other two votes against the amended resolution.
Previously, Witkoff, Trump’s special envoy had a 3.5 hour one on one meeting with Putin when Witkoff travelled to Moscow to bring home Mark Fogel, who had been released by Russia on 11 February . As no US Embassy officials were present, there could be no US official records of the meeting.

What is going to happen to their unemployment? And will they all receive unemployment benefits, or is Trump killing that? And if they aren’t receiving benefits, their poverty statistics are about to get real bad!

Historically the formed alliances with countries that shared the same values (democracy, freedom)

Trump has no values. He only cares about what’s in it for him

There will be no truthful official stats, and nobody with that job in any case. Employment will be positive, national wealth will increase for all, and Americans will be fit, strong, white and bright.

The irony of these two statements being posted back to back is clearly beyond the comprehension powers of the 2nd poster.

Behind paywall. What did Macron correct?

What disgusts me most tho is siding with Putin to squeeze resources from Ukraine. Similar to Gaza, it’s like every tragedy is an opportunity to exploit for this human excrement.

Washington: The United States sided with Russia and a handful of other countries to oppose a resolution condemning Russia as the aggressor against Ukraine on the third anniversary of Vladimir Putin’s full-scale invasion.

The motion passed the United Nations General Assembly on Monday (Tuesday AEDT) with the support of 93 states – including Australia, Canada, Britain, France, Germany and other Western allies – to applause from the gallery.
The vote in New York came as French President Emmanuel Macron became the first European leader to visit Donald Trump in Washington and, in an awkward moment on camera, corrected the US president on his claims about Europe’s support for Ukraine.

“Just so you understand, Europe is loaning the money to Ukraine – they get their money back,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office.

Macron then reached for Trump’s arm and interrupted. “No, in fact, to be frank, we paid 60 per cent of the total effort. And it was – like the US – loans, guarantees, grants, and we provided real money,” he said.

He then went on to explain that there were $230 billion worth of frozen Russian assets in Europe, which should not be regarded as collateral. If these assets were handed over to Europe as part of a negotiation, then “it will be a loan at the end of the day, and Russia will have paid for that”, Macron said.

Trump addressed his reply to the cameras. “If you believe that, it’s OK with me,” he said. “But they get their money back, and we don’t.”

Trump also revealed he had invited Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to the White House to sign an agreement expected to allow the US to profit from Ukraine’s rare earth minerals, and oil and gas, in return for past and ongoing defence support.

The deal to “get our money back” was close, Trump said, an assessment also made by Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister Olha Stefanishyna in a post on X.
