US politics - the new orange wave (Part 7)

I’m just marvelling at how many Trump supporting Republicans are portraying this a " a great day for America" with “tough” Trump standing up for freedom and peace. That is not what I saw. The interview showed a wannbe mafioso and his offsider gang-tackling/threatening someone who came to them for help And getting some revisionary history to boot.
And Bezos has just castrated the Washington Post, so there goes another somewhat balanced news source that would normally push back critically on this propaganda.
And this, against a president who has lived and operated in a warzone for the last 3 years. A genuinely tough individual who has dealt with a situation he neither wanted or expected- and managed so far to resist an invasion.
What alternate reality are we living in?

Rubio forced to sit next to Vance and stay mute. He looked so uncomfortable, realising that he’s just going to be dusted off occasionally as part of the cheer squad.

As a Christian myself, I appreciate the way that many Blitzers can tell the difference between Trumpism and what Jesus taught.

I’m also deeply distressed that many of my American brothers cannot tell the difference.

Contempt for his persona, demeanor and conduct is totally valid no matter who pulls his strings.

Any reaction from Canada after Euros expressions of support for Zelensky?

They want their precious Rapture and they see Trump as the blunt instrument to make it happen.

Yes, thank you to the many of you who recognise that our faith is being used as a front by MAGA.

Official reaction as reported, ( from a Turkish newspaper)

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Friday reiterated his country’s support to Ukraine following a fiery exchange between US President Donald Trump and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

“Russia illegally and unjustifiably invaded Ukraine. For three years now, Ukrainians have fought with courage and resilience,” said Trudeau on X, emphasizing Ukrainians’ fight for “democracy, freedom, and sovereignty is a fight that matters to us all.”

He said that “Canada will continue to stand with Ukraine and Ukrainians in achieving a just and lasting peace.”

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Melanie Joly emphasized the importance of supporting Ukraine, and noted Zelenskyy’s leadership and Ukraine’s strategic value in deterring Russian aggression.

“He (Zelenskyy) has shown great leadership and courage,” Joly said at an event in Vancouver shortly after the incident between Zelenskyy and Trump at the Oval Office.

Saying that the Ukrainian president “will never settle for a bad deal,” she stressed that “it is for us important to make sure that we work with him and with our allies on that (ceasefire deal).”

“If we don’t get a good deal for Ukraine, we’re sending a message to Russia, and we know that President (Vladimir) Putin has no red lines. If he has no red lines, it means that then NATO territory is at threat, and if NATO territory is at threat, we are at threat,” Joly added.

Trudeau and Joly’s remarks came after Zelenskyy got into a heated war of words with Trump and US Vice President JD Vance, who repeatedly accused the Ukrainian leader of being ungrateful for Americans’ support in Kyiv’s war effort.

The highly undiplomatic war of words lasted for roughly 10 minutes as Zelenskyy sought to defend his handling of the over three-year-long conflict with Russia.

Zelenskyy departed the White House following the public spat, and a planned signing ceremony for a deal on critical minerals and press conference were canceled.

JD Vance is so bad in that meeting, so unbelievably shithouse. Imagine looking stupider than Trump. Pointing finger and obsessing over saying thank you. Absolute ■■■■■■■ softcock amateur.

And I can’t get over that guy obsessing over Zelenskyy not wearing a suit. His country is at war and now you’re the fashion police? It’s not Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, FFS.

Was he a reporter or one of Trump’s hangers on?

Especially as another poster pointed out, they have no problem with Musk swanning in with his Sunday morning gear on.

Definitely a little lap pig for now, but lots of dangerous supporters, or rather puppeteers, got him where he is and he will very likely be President

It’s clear as a bell. But what isn’t are the many strong voices (bells) available to the church to go against the horrors currently being enacted in its name. The ailing Pope has muttered a few irritations but I am not hearing much else from the non fascist, non MAGA demented US Christian world. Maybe because they got abortion, and they’re getting their LGBT etc causes looked after?

US access to Ukraine minerals is being sold as Ukraine paying back its debt, but also more strategically, to counter China’s dominance in production and the supply chain.
Myanmar never gets a mention in this context. It has emerged as a major rare earth producer , developed by Chinese exploitation of the country’s mineral wealth, exports go to China.
There’s a huge civil war there, with Chinese involvement; Myanmar creating one of the world’s largest refugee problems with the persecution of the Rohingyas , destabilising Bangladesh and other countries in the region.
At the international level, the UN institution seems about the sole body paying attention. The UN is trying to deliver humanitarian aid, which is currently subject to scams on the Thai border. The UNSG has chosen to commemorate Ramadan by going to Cox’s Bazaar to join with the Rohingya refugees in Iftar.

I’m not going to flood blitz with the myriad statements of condemnation of Russia’s advance upon Ukraine and calls for peace. Here’s but one, from my local community.

  • The church’s president, Rev Sharon Hollis, issued a prayer for congregations to share.
  • The prayer asked for comfort for those who mourn, hope for those who despair, and compassion for all who suffer.
  • The prayer also asked God to make people instruments of peace.

Call for ceasefire

  • The church joined the World Council of Churches in calling for an immediate ceasefire, the release of hostages, and the opening of humanitarian corridors.
  • The church also condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.*

You will understand I’m sure Loflyer, the MSM does not always promote all voices.
